HEL HEART OUR RECIPES American Heart Association Apple Crisp Use this recipe with a variety of fruits for a healthy treat. Vegetable oil spray % cup 1VÍ lbs. (5 medium) apples, cored and sliced, 1/2 cup unpeeled 1/2 cup 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice V3 cup Vi tsp. ground cinnamon all-purpose flour firmly packed brown sugar uncooked oatmeal acceptable* margarine Preheat oven to 375° F. Lightly spray a 2-quart casserole dish with vegetable oil spray. Arrange apples in prepared dish. Sprinkle with lemon juice and cinnamon. In a medium bowl, combine flour, brown sugar and oatmeal. Cut in margarine with a fork or pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Spread over fruit. Bake 40 minutes or until apples are tender. Variation 1: Peach Crisp — Use 11/2 pounds (6 medium), peeled and sliced, fresh peaches in place of apples. Variation 2: Blueberry Crisp — Use 3 cups fresh or frozen unsweetened blueberries in place of apples. Makes 8 servings. * Select margarines that have no more than 2 gms. of saturated fat per tablespoon. Remove from heat and add cold water until potatoes are cooled slightly. Peel and cut into 1-inch cubes. In a large non-stick skillet, sauté onions and green pepper in oil until tender. Add potatoes and sprinkle with black pepper and paprika. Cook over medium heat 10 minutes or until potatoes are browned, stirring frequently. Serve hot.
