PATIENCE... KINDNESS... DEDICATION ...AND CARING ... No matter what department, whether it be Nursing, Dietary, Housekeeping, Activities, or Maintenance, that’s what type of staff you will find working here at the Bethlen Home. May is also designated to celebrate National Nurses’ Week from the 6th through the 12th. This week was created to pay tribute to those people who have dedicated themselves to the caring of mankind. An Employee Luncheon will be held in honor of Nurses’ Day on Friday, May 13th. Details will be posted. Listed below is our Nursing Staff. Thank you for your kindness and caring. Jljrom tlje director nf pursing by Cathy Kunkle, RN, DON NURSES’ DAY AND EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION DAY May is a special month forthe Staff at Bethlen Home. We celebrate Employee Recognition Day and Nurses’ Day. Taking care of the elderly takes a staff with special qualities. I know, you’ve heard that line before, but it’s true. Nursing staff who take care of the elderly need patience -- residents don’t always do things as quickly or as willingly as we want them to. Caregivers need to be compassionate -- residents can’t lead the lives they used to, and we try to understand their past experiences and loss of some of their freedom. Working in a nursing home is much more personal than in a hospital, where people leave before you get to know them. CATHY KUNKLE, RN & DIRECTOR OF NURSING CYNTHIA J.ARTIM, RN & ASSESSMENT COORDINATOR JOANN SCHMUCKER, RN & ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING CHARRISE HORRELL, RN NANCY DULL, RN ANN BLACKBURN, RN MICHAEL DAVIS, RN JEAN BENDORF, RN MEG YOUNKIN, RN JOANNE HALL, RN COREENA STIFFLER, LPN & RESTORATIVE NURSING COORDINATOR KATHY SMITH, LPN JEANNETTE MILLER, RN EMILY PYNOS, RN ANN FOSTER, RN CHARLOTTE PEDICONE, RN AUDREY ANN LAMANTIA, RN JANE WYMAN, RN LYDIA HERROLTZ, LPN EDIE NESMETH, LPN DEBBIE SILVAS, LPN NATIONAL NURSING HOME WEEK Each year, thousands of long term care facilities across the United States honortheir residents during National Nursing Home Week, which runs from May 8th through the 14th. Everyone tries to do something extra special to make this week stand out from all the others during the year. The residents in Bethlen Home come from many places and diverse backgrounds, just as the staff members do. The Nurses Aides give direct care, and try to consider the individual personalities of each resident. Even when residents can’t verbally communicate their likes and dislikes, their expressions and behavior often tell us their feelings. Eating patterns are an example of this! After a lifetime of eating what they please, residents suddenly must adjust to set meal times and eating what’s on the menu. Dietary tries to consider residents’ food preferences, but it isn’t easy with a large number of residents. Not so visible, but just as important, are Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Laundry. They work quietly to keep things in working order, to keep our home looking spic and span, and to see that linens and residents’ clothing are neat and clean. Social Services, Activities Department, and the Chaplain keep our residents active and content by scheduling activities, hair appointments, and being there when residents have a problem or just want to talk. The Administrative Staff helps everyone by keeping things running smoothly and giving whatever support is needed. Tradition holds here at Bethlen that we take our residents on a week-long vacation, whether it be by bus, ship, or train. This year’s theme is going to be a little different. We’re going to travel by submarine. What better way to see “UNDER THE SEA”. Activities held during that week will correspond with the theme. So, residents, start digging out those wet suits and climb aboard. The Staff works together as a team, working toward the goal of helping each resident be the best that they can be. During the month of May, we honor the employees of Bethlen Home for their dedication, and say “THANK YOU”!! IN HONOR OF NURSES’ DAY AND * f EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION DAY
