Businesses need sales to survive. There are more and more reasons created to bolster the businesses: September is National Rice Month; American Breakfast Month; Cholesterol Control and Awareness Month. On the 13th, we honor our laundry workers and on the week of 20-26, we especially love our food-service employees. We thank both departments for their faithful, well done, but never ending jobs. What would we do without their accomplishments?! In Octoberduring the National Dessert Month, wedo not promote desserts in the Bethlen Home. We’d rather have our residents eating fruits than desserts. In November we will make our people especially aware of the danger of diabetes and its consequences. We will underline the importance of a controlled blood sugar in prevention of blindness, kidney problems and heart troubles. Like the harvest horn of plenty Spilling out its fruit and grain, May Thanksgiving tumble blessings On your household once again. May your turkey be the plumpest, Roasted to a golden brown, And your pies of mince and pumpkin Waft their spices through the town. May your guests be laughter-loving, With contentment in their eyes, And the youngsters filled with wonder At each gourmet surprise. Then when the day is over And it’s time for guests to part, May the spirit of Thanksgiving Linger still within your heart. Warm flannels comfort you and relax you, calm your nerves after a bath of 110° per state regulations, and loosens the cramped muscles. When operated on in the Westmoreland Hospital, my husband I enjoyed the comfort of heated blankets after our surgeries. Returning home, I requested information about the apparatus used by the hospital. About three years ago the warming cabinets’ cost was $14 - 17,000 each. The heated cabinets are like closets which would warm flannel sheets to be used after the patients are dried of their baths, pampering them into warm flannels before taking the residents back to their rooms. We would plan for two: one upstairs, one downstairs by the community bathrooms. I thought maybe we could raise the needed sum through projects and donations. If I find that the idea meets enthusiasm and cooperation toward this goal, I will get in touch with various companies fabricating such apparatus and will start to obtain the best prices, complete specifications, etc., then share the results with you in our next newsletter. It is luxurious to think about the possibility of such pampering of our old and frail residents. Please let me know your opinion to decide on forgetting this idea forever, or elaborate on it seriously in the near future. Thank you for your cooperation.
