3n 3fflemort| ®f REV. LOUIS ILLÉS by Mrs. Edith Kovács We are so sad to tell that our dear friend of sixteen years: Rev. Louis Hies passed away. We payed our last respects to him on Sunday, Aug. 9,1992 when he was put to rest in the little Hungarian Cemetery of Duquesne at noon-time among more than 250 bereaved friends, colleagues, church members and family members. Words can’t tell the love it was felt toward his wife Dorothy and daughter Esther who suffered this unexpected great loss caused by massive heart attack. Louis is from Budapest, where he finished his high school education with “summa cum laude” in the Lonyai in 1944. His grandfather was a minister in Hódmezővásárhely. I am sure his first inclination toward the ministry was originated there. His father wasa Hungarian language and literature high school teacher, later a professional organist and cantor. His musically, nice voice and talent for perfect spelling were all inherited by Louis. We often discussed more complicated spelling problems, just for fun. When the classes in the theological seminary were cancelled in 1944, because of the war, he went to Bonn where he could pursue his career of ministry. Later he came to the U.S.A. where in the Berkeley Pacific School of Religion received his diploma as ordained minister. Twenty-six long years he served with his lovely, kind, understanding and faithful wife in the Duquesne Hungarian Reformed Church on the 1411 Kennedy Avenue. Nowthat he left us in his66th year, we all mourn his passing on. Especially the Bethlen Nursing Home, where he wasa loving brother and a frequently visiting minister. He was always there when you needed him, just like his church members: to make new bibs, bring breads for our meetings, sound systems, recordings, picturetakings, and problem discussions. Through and through everything he was a very much loved friend of us. We will miss him immensely!!! We pray that God grant his family consolation and peace, and bless his memory among us. Nagyon megszomorodott szívvel Írjuk a hirt, hogy Nt. ILLÉS LAJOS, tizenhat even át hűséges j<5barátunk meghalt. Vasárnap, Augusztus 9-én délben kísértük utolso útjára a duquesnei kis magyar temetőbe, gyászoló felesege: Dorothy; leánya: Esther; családja, barátai, kollégái, egyháztagjai körében, akiknek száma a 250-et is meghaladta. Szomorú szívvel búcsúztunk attól a baráttól akire mindig, mindenben számítani lehetett. A Bethlen Otthon életén átszövődő közös szeretetszolgálatban elégó'lélek, keresztyén gyertyáit égető' lelkész volt Ő, aki, -^sakügy mint epyháztagjai, - a szakálkakészitéstol a kenyérhordasig, az ifjúság istápolásátol a mikrofonok beszereléséig, a beteglátogatástol a nyomdászkodásig, £ Bethlen Otthon lakóit a szivén hordta mindenkor. tí"tanitott engem fényképezni, diapositivokat kezelni, és nem kérhettem olyan szívességet, melyet készségesen meg nem tett volna. Oh mennyit versengtünk palántáinkon és versenyeztünk azoknak terméséért. Gyakran tárgyaltunk meg komplikáltabb helyesírási problémákat, s a Bethlen Naptár korrektalásánái komoly ür marad a helyén. At meg át van szőve a Bethlen Otthon élete az Cf jelenlétével. Rendszeresen látogatott bennünket és egyháztagjait. Mindig volt pár vicce a tarisznyában ápolóink számára is. Nekünk, mindnyájunknak a Bethlen Otthonban, nagyon fog hiányozni! Kérjük a jo Istent, hogy vigasztaló"szeretetével álljon a megözvegyedett felesség mellé, és áldja meg Lajos emlékét miközöttünk!
