çActtiriiii JHtgljItgljtö ATTENTION STAFF, IT’S HALLOWEEN TIME . . . Yes, everyone, it’s that time of year again when you can start planning your favorite HALLOWEEN COSTUME for the annual contest. Each year the staff seems to become more and more creative. I can’t wait to see what everyone will come up with this year. Especially the afternoon shift, as they always work out their costumes as a group project. Just imagine a bunch of blue smurfs running around. Remember, judging will be held only for the Daylight and Afternoon Shifts for the ugliest, most creative, and best costume. There will also be a special HALLOWEEN PARTY held in the afternoon of the31stforour residents and staff. Details will be posted and announced closer to that time. Also, watch for details for activities during Halloween week such as pumpkin carving, apple bobbing, dinner at the Spook’s Diner, etc. Anyone having any questions can contact Ann or Sherry in the Activity Department. NEW COOKBOOK AVAILABLE The Activity Department is once again putting out a new cookbook entitled “Just Desserts”. The cookbook will be available in November at our Bazaar, and we will also be taking mail orders once again. The cost of the cookbook will be $5.00 each. Mail orders will be $7.00 each to cover postage and handling. Friends, families, volunteers and staff members have put their favorite dessert, cakes, cookies, candies, jellies, bread and roll recipes together for your enjoyment. Proceeds will benefit the Resident Activity Fund. Remember, Christmas is coming and they will make a great stocking stuffer and thank you gift. I would like to “Thank” everyone who supported our last cookbook. We sold over 400 copies. Won’t you please support us again for this worthy cause! I’m sure many of you residents can recall the making of your children’s Halloween costumes and passing out the candies to the neighborhood children. What joy you would see in their faces when you handed them that special treat. Below are several poems which will bring back some fond memories. MY NAME IS JACK I was just the usual pumpkin Till they found me on the farm, Then they took me home and carved me. Gave my face a special charm. How my light would glow on the porch step. How it flickered in the wind. Ghosts and goblins smiled to see me. When they called me Jack, I grinned. A RECIPE FOR HALLOWEEN Take a dozen witches, Broomsticks, five or six, Several hundred goblins, Each one up to tricks. Take some owls a hooting And some scatting cats, Jack-o'lanterns spooky, Several hundred bats. Season well with laughter Harmless fun that’s fine; Add a dish of shivers Creeping down the spine. Stir them all together, Looking very sober, In a big, black cauldron, Last day of October. PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS Bethlen Home is participating in PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS.
