ScttWtp ÿ)igljlíglits America's Welcome Home Troop Pen Pals Any resident or employee interested in writing to our service men and women over in the Gulf, please see Sherry. I'm sure many of these men and women would love to hear from you. Your support and prayers for peace are very much needed. A few words from their homeland I'm sure will help comfort them in these trying times. Tie A Yellow Ribbon As you walk about the home you see many of our residents and staff wearing yellow ribbons and having American flags on display showing support to our American service men and women. Anyone wanting a yellow ribbon can see Olga in the Gift shop. There are also special Red, White and Blue corsages available. A Salute To The Hostages America, we see you stand a vibrant, awe-inspiring land. Your zeal inspires; your dreams uplift, but freedom is your greatest gift. On, on they came from land and shore to see the lamp, the open door. With words eternal, man decreed that Freedom's rights are guaranteed. God-fearing men with virtuous wives soon read the weather in the skies, strung their fences, plowed their lands, held the future in their hands. Time moves along, a transient dream, as leafy vessels ford a stream. Other interests cast their spell till freedom sounds a warning bell. Our countrymen were boldly seized to bring this nation to its knees. As hearts were touched, they chose to share, and knees were bent in common prayer. United...We, the People...learned when fifty-two at last returned that freedom shared will stand the strain. We SHALL NOT be misused again! God touched this land... a spirit, free... With yellow ribbons on each tree, Smiles and tears a sounding bell. Who honors Freedom, guards it well!! Above poem by Alice Leedy Mason As Memorial Day approaches, many people are reminded that it's the start of summer, closing of school, etc. This year, however, I'm sure will be different since the war in the Gulf is on everyone's mind. We support those families and those loved one's who helped to fight to make our country free and to help continue our freedom and safety today. Oh, gallantly they fared forth in khaki and in blue, America’s crusading host of warriors bold and true; They battled for the rights of men beside our brave Allies, And now they're coming home to us with glory in their eyes. Oh, it's home again, and home again, America for me! Our hearts are turning home again and there we long to be, In our beautiful big country beyond the ocean bars, Where the air is full of sunlight and the flag is full of starts. They bore our country's great word across the rolling sea, "America swears brotherhood with all the just and free.” They wrote that word victorious on fields of mortal life. Oh, welcome home in Heaven's peace, dear spirits of the dead! And welcome home ye living sons America hath Bred! The lords of war are beaten down, your glorious task is done; You fought to make the whole world free, and the victory is won. Now it's home again, and home again, our hearts are turning west, Of all the lands beneath the sun America is best. We're going home to our own folks, beyond the ocean bars, Where the air is full of sun light and the flag is full of stars. Poem by Henry van Dyke
