PRESENTS HK LU PATIENTS PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS The Bethlen Home is once again participating in the 1990 PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS CAMPAIGN, a campaign that encourages the public to share a Christmas gift and a special moment with lonely patients in long-term care facilities in western Pennsylvania. Co-sponsored by St. Barnabas Charitable Foundation and WPXI-TV, the PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS program received a personal citation from President Regan in 1988 for its outstanding contribution to the American spirit of volunteerism and community action. In 1989, the program provided gifts for over 8,113 patients in 62 long-term care facilities. This will be the seventh year for the campaign. According to Sherry Humbertson, the Activity Director of the Bethlen Home, many of our residents have outlived family and friends. "Christmas is a lonely time for any resident in a long-term care facility". The residents long for companionship and like to be remembered. The Activity Department encourages community and family members to share in the program by becoming a PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS DONOR. The interested donor should complete the form listed below. The form will then be matched with a resident here at the Bethlen Home. You, the donor, will then receive a card noting the resident's name, age, sex and gift wishes. The donor may shop for, wrap and deliver the gift personally to his or her assigned resident. If you are unable to do so and still would like to be a donor, you may also contribute money and a volunteer will purchase and deliver the gift for you. Community groups and businesses may become sponsors by adopting several residents or by displaying posters and donor cards in their place of business. For more information on the PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS program or to become a donor, please contact Sherry at Bethlen Home 238- 6711 or call the PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS hotline at 412-443-0011.
