Fraternity I Testvériség Branch News Branch 35—Detroit, M Plan Ahead JOIN HANDS DAY May 1, 2010 Katalin Varga delivers the donation to Advent by candle light hostesses the Women’s Shelter When we are closer to the end of the year, we know it is time to go shopping and prepare for the Operation Christmas Child Project and to get some nice and useful items for boys and girls. Members of Branch 35 and members of the American Hungarian Reformed Church participated in this event. Their contributions helped to make this noble cause a success. Those who decided to participate were very excited and shared with each other various ideas of what to get the needy children. Their lovingly and carefully prepared boxes were delivered to the collection center. We know that December is a busy time for everyone. Yet on December 3rd, we held our annual Advent By Candlelight Program. We had 19 beautifully decorated tables for 140 women. A number of them were members of our Branch. It was a time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and to enjoy uplifting Christian music and a drama skit. Each year, we have a service project to accompany the event. This year, I asked the members and the guests to bring one item of toiletry in order to provide some aid to women who are assisted and cared for by a local Women’s Shelter. A great collection of toiletries valued over $400.00 was delivered to them. It was a heart-warming feeling when one of the guests told me that she shared this idea with her co-workers and they too went out and bought a bag of items for this cause. This relief effort was greatly appreciated by the Shelter. Operation Christmas Child September 27 was a fun day for the children to fill Christmas boxes for needy children. Before we started the project, we watched the DVD when the children received the boxes last year. The children enjoy filling the boxes, knowing that would make a child happy. For We all felt very good about our donation because this was the time to give, not just to receive. Katalin Varga Branch Manager and Fraternal Administrator some children, this would be the only gift they received and even saving ribbons attached to the box is something that is of value to them. We completed 30 boxes. Children learn to share, give and be blessed by doing this. After the completion of filling the boxes, we shared refreshments and enjoyed fellowship with the adults and children. At New Brighton Christian Assembly Church, October 14 through November 12, 2009 We received 240 boxes. Our goal had been reached! This project was a success. Our Pastor Demarco on the first Sunday showed a film of a lovely young woman who remembered when she was 11 years old in war-torn Bosnia and how she received a pair of shoes in her Christmas Branch 151—Beaver Falls, PA 9
