A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT • 9 f J • • • • A MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT The 3 8th Convention of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America took place in Ligonier, PA on September 28 through October 1,2008. Eleven Board of Directors, thirty-two delegates and invited guests spent a wonderful four days at Ligonier’s Ramada Inn and at the Bethlen Communities. The convention was dedicated to the memory of Rev. Imre Bertalan, Honorary President who served as a Board member from 1968 to 1980 and as HRFA President from 1980 to 1992. His son, Rev. Imre Bertalan, Jr., set the tone of this year’s convention in his opening address: “We are all about people, and faith and people working together should guide our mission. We must serve the people who are the lifeblood of this organization if we are to achieve continued success and reach greater heights.” President Bush sent his greetings to the members of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. He stated. “With talent, vision, and determination, Hungarian Americans set a positive example for others and add to the success and prosperity of our country. Your good work contributes to our country’s legacy of diversity and honors the many ways Hungarian Americans enrich the American experience and make our country a better place to live.” Governor Rendeli of Pennsylvania also sent his greetings. He noted, “Since its inception in 1896, the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America has maintained, promoted, and supported the culture, heritage, language and religious traditions of Hungarians in America.” Donald C. White, Pennsylvania State Senator, also addressed the convention and brought greetings to attendees from members of the Pennsylvania State Legislature. Mr. FRATERNITY - TESTVÉRISÉG Robert Huxel of the National Fraternal Congress of America was the banquet’s keynote speaker, and he praised HRFA for its fraternal activities and its long presence in the nation’s capital. Personally, my wife Kathy and I were pleased to meet so many of you at the convention who have devoted many years of faithful service to the Federation. With your enthusiastic commitment to HRFA and with God’s blessings, we will continue to provide life insurance to members and their families. Please continue to foster a sense of community among Hungarian Americans by organizing and promoting social gatherings, commemorative events, and other activities designed to strengthen our common bond. Thank you for your dedication and hard work for the Federation that helped make this year’s convention so successful. May God bless all of you. As we approach the holiday season, all of us in the Home Office send our season’s greetings and wish each of you and your families a blessed and bountiful Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas. Sincerely, Leslie László Megyeri 9
