The cultural fabric of our commonwealth has been woven from the proud histories and traditions of our citizens. It is this diversity that makes the freedoms of expression and association that we enjoy as Americans so extraordinary. By celebrating and embracing our own unique heritage, we uphold the principles and ideals of liberty, equality, and democracy. As you gather with those who share your common ancestry, you reaffirm a bond of mutual understanding and respect and gain a greater appreciation for your past. Since its inception in 1896, the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America has maintained, promoted, and supported the culture, heritage, language, and religious traditions of Hungarians in America. In addition, this organization provides life insurance and other financial services to help secure the well-being and future of its members and their families while fostering a sense of community among Hungarian-Americans by organizing, at both the national and local levels, social gatherings; commemorative events; group travel programs; and fraternal activities designed to strengthen the shared affinity of its members to their ethnic and cultural heritage. As Governor and on behalf of all Pennsylvanians, I am pleased to welcome everyone gathered for the 38th Quadrennial Convention of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Best wishes for a successful and memorable convention. EDWARD G. RENDELL Governor September 29, 2008 6 WINTER 2008
