BRANCH NEWS/STUDENT AID years, he also had other responsibilities within the Hungarian Reformed Church in America. He served as the President of the American Hungarian Reformed Ministerial Association and its Eastern Division. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, and for two years, he was the President of the organization. As he takes the reins of two very historical churches, Rev. Torok’s aim is to gather believers, and hopefully the descendants of the Hungarian immigrants in the area. While Rev. Torok speaks six languages, church services will be held for the most part in English. But sometimes, he promised, he’ll say the Word of God in Hungarian in Perth Amboy where there are some believers who speak Hungarian. In Woodbridge, following local tradition, the church will work together with the local Hungarian club to keep the Hungarian culture alive. Submitted by Petra Fehérvári, Home Office staff. STUDENT AID RECIPIENTS The Student Aid Fund of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America is accepting donations. Since we are a tax-exempt fraternal organization, the amount of your contribution is deductible from your personal income taxes. Your generous donation allows many young members of the HRFA to partake in the wonderful opportunities higher education has to offer. JOSHUA NICHOLAS 1 have been a member of the HRFA all my life (20 years), and participated in some of the fraternal projects to help other people in the Trumbull County area. I have always been impressed by community work that the Federation does to help people and churches. I graduated from LaBrae High School in May of 2006, where I participated in football, track, golf and indoor soccer. I was an honor student in high school who had a dream that someday I would become an airplane pilot. I am currently in my second year of college attending Kent State University, enrolled in the College of Technology Aeronautics in which I fly a Cessna Cub Plane each day at Kent State University Airport. At the present time, I work part-time at the Handyman Hardware Store whenever time allows. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to receive a student aid scholarship from the HRFA, which will enable me to pursue my studies. To all the members of the Federation, I thank you. Joshua was recommended by Branch Manager Marge Nicholas of Warren, Ohio JEREMIAH SKOVIRA It is with great sincerity that I offer my thanks to the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America for this financial aid opportunity. Through my experiences associated with my work, my church and my school, Juanita College, I have learned many lessons. I am currently an employee at Ligonier Gardens, which is a part of Bethlen Communities. Ligonier Gardens, a personal care home, has given me an opportunity to get in touch with Hungarian Reformed Federation of America and learn many new things about the Hungarian culture. I am a member of the maintenance staff at Ligonier Gardens, and because of this, I am able to interact with many of the residents. I have made a great number of friends through these interactions and also learned many aspects of my culture. 26 FALL 2008
