certification. Although my focus of study is in American history, I have been able to explore Hungarian history in great depth. For one course, I researched the effects of the Ottoman invasion of Hungary on the success of the Reformation there. In another course, I researched the home life of the families of Hungarian mine-workers in Homestead, PA. The resonance of Hungarian and Hungarian-American history with my own family’s history has made it personally significant to study. At Vassar, I am the captain of the varsity fencing team, a consultant at the Writing Center, and a research assistant in the History Department. I hope to teach U.S. history at the high school level after I graduate. Thank you to the HRFA for its dedication to higher education and expanding the opportunities of young members.” Kristina was recommended by Branch Manager Margaret Pauli Lindsay Sosnowski, member of Branch 31: “On behalf of having the opportunity to be a recipient for the student aid scholarship, I would like to thank the HRFA and Branch Manager Emma Aros. I am currently a sophomore at Ohio University where I am majoring in Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences and double minoring in Spanish and Linguistics. I’m working on my Bachelor’s degree, but plan on attending graduate school to become a Speech Pathologist. I hope to study abroad in either Spain or Mexico spring quarter of my senior year. This spring quarter, I am joining Habitat for Humanity so I can be more involved on campus. During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to participate in the Lorain International Princess Pageant. It was a great experience being able to represent my Hungarian Heritage. I also took Hungarian dance lessons and performed at the Lorain International Festival. I definitely can say I had a tremendous exposure to the Hungarian culture and it has left an amazing impact on my identity. Thanks again to Emma Aros and everyone at the HFRA who helped make this generous contribution available to me.” Lindsay was recommended by Branch Manager Emma Aros My objective for furthering my studies is to become a nutrition specialist. Nutrition specialists advise and help people with their dietary matters relating to their health and overall nutrition. I am a member of the Photography Club at the University of Arizona. I volunteer at a nearby nursing home when I am home from school, but this upcoming year, I intend to get more involved in clubs and volunteer more with my University. I would like to thank my grandfather and grandmother for the opportunity to apply for this scholarship.” Ericka was recommended by Branch Manager Ed Szabó Sándor Varga, member of Branch 182: “I am currently in my second and a half year as a fulltime student at Rio Hondo Community College. I enrolled as a music major, with emphasis on composition. I plan on using my knowledge of music and love of it to entertain and give joy to the people who listen to it. I always had a love of music ever since I was little, I was first chair Trumpet at middle school, and I continued to high school playing Jazz, Wind Ensemble and Marching Band. I have learned a lot and decided this is what I want to do with the rest of my life to create and play music. Currently, I am taking many music classes and general education classes so I will be prepared to transfer to either a University or a Cal State campus. At Rio Hondo, I am involved in a group that is called the Diverse Instrument Ensemble which is a collaboration of many instruments including electric and acoustic. This broadens my view of how many different instruments I may have to work with in the future. I would like to thank the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America for this great scholarship to help me afford my tuition in my educational career.” Sándor was recommended by Former Director Tibor Nagy APPEAL Ericka Szabó, member of Branch 2: “My name is Ericka Szabó, and I am from Cleveland, Ohio. I am currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at The University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. I am enrolled in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, majoring in Nutritional Sciences. Along with majoring in Nutritional Sciences, I am minoring in Spanish and Chemistry as well. m. 3M Calling Our Members Who Received Student Aid!
