STUDENT AID my VMT degree. I also take horseback riding lessons at Wilson College. I have taken them since my freshman year, and 1 will be continuing to take lessons until I graduate. Riding has taught me about horse behavior, and how to groom, tack, care and prepare for riding. I have been thrown but 1 did not let that stop me from riding. I did not sustain any major injuries. I was just very sore and a bit bruised. I am well aware of the consequences when it comes to riding as well as the benefits. This summer, I returned to the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium for my third year. I work in Kids Kingdom, continuously working with adults, children and animals. Part of my job at the Zoo is performing animal shows in front of an audience, educating them about many of the lesser known inhabitants of the Zoo along with the well-known animals that some may fear or love such as snakes, spiders, lizards and birds. I also work in animal yards and operate rides. I plan on interning at the Zoo’s new Vet Medical Hospital after my junior year at Wilson. I am also a member of the VMT club at Wilson College. 1 will be the club’s secretary during my junior year. I will also hold the position of Vice President of my class, 2010, during my junior year as well. My father is currently serving in the Army. I have had many homes and lived in several different states and in one other country. I was bom in Texas and resided in Germany, Tennessee, Virginia and Pennsylvania. Being a military child has taught me to adapt and adjust quickly. This lifestyle, I believe, has helped mold and benefited me for the future. I am the middle child and only girl. My parents divorced when I was 13, and I chose to live with my mom. She has helped mold me into a confident, strong and independent young woman. Kira was recommended by Joseph and Maria Berei. LAUREN ELIZABETH VOS BRANCH 2 I am currently a student completing my sophomore year at the University of Evansville. With the intent to graduate in May, 2010, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology with a concentration in pre-professional social work along with a minor in Business Administration. Thus far, 1 have maintained a place on the Dean’s List at the University of Evansville. In addition to being a student, I am a part-time employee of the Evansville-Vanderburgh Public Library working 20 hours per week. I have been employed at the library since February 2007, and I am planning to continue this work throughout my college career. My work at the library includes book shelving as well as customer service in which I interact with various members of the community. While being a student and employed at the library, I also babysit for various families within the area. I began working with one family in the fall of 2006 and since then, have become involved in baby-sitting many other families in the community based on recommendations from previous clients. I have also been involved in volunteering with a non-profit organization, The Potter’s Wheel, which works with underprivileged individuals and families. The Potter’s Wheel provides weekly sets of meals for families that have trouble being able to provide food for themselves. The Potter’s Wheel also provides various holiday and weekly programs for families. My desire is to be involved in some sort of non-profit organization upon graduation. My work at the Potter’s Wheel has helped me gain experience with working with the community as well as providing a practical application of my major.
