San Cristobel. We are rapidly collecting clothing, shoes, school supplies, sheets, books in Spanish, and food, so that the container can be sent as quickly as possible. This will set us back a week in our OCC work, but is a cause important enough that we feel we need to devote this effort to it. Branch 35 — Allen Park, MI Submitted by: Katalin Varga, Area Fraternal Coordinator and Branch Manager Phone: 734-783-0609; email: kate var ga@,gmail.com Join Hands Day project location: American Hungarian Reformed Church in Allen Park, Michigan (9901 Allen Road) Participants cleaned and established flowerbeds around the American Hungarian Reformed Church. Youths and adults divided the work appropriately and complemented each other's efforts. The youth of the Allen Church Sunday School reached out to the church members by publishing the information in the church bulletin and talked to the people in the community. The generations mastered their cooperation skills that they have been developing throughout the years since this has been the recurring project for Branch 35 of HRFA. The community is planning different events, picnics to come together again, enjoy and share the beauty of the church grounds with others in the community. Little Helping Hands At the end of September with the children from our Branch 35 together with the Sunday School students of the American Hungarian Reformed Church completed a mission project. At the end of September with the children from our Branch 35 together with the Sunday School students of the American Hungarian Reformed Church completed a mission project. We prepared packages filled with school supplies and candy for 15 children of a Hungarian Reformed Congregation in Erdély (Romania). The very excited children individually made personalized cards for the recipients and they were happy to help with the packing. All of them are looking forward to keep in touch with fellow young believers on the other side of the ocean. Branch 151 Submitted by: Peggy Fabri, Area Fraternal Coordinator and Branch Manager; Phone: 724-843-6162; email: JF37m@hotmail.com Join Hands Day project location: St. Emery's Cemetery in Connellsville, Pennsylvania Members of HRFA, The William Penn Association, The Hungarian American Federation and The Bethlen Home joined to clean the 100-year old St. Emery's Cemetery that had fallen to neglect. Volunteers restored it back to a manicured state. The old cemetery’s history dates back to the Darr Mine disaster. On December 19, 1907 more than 100 Hungarian men and boys died in an explosion. These loved ones were buried here at St. Emory's Hungarian Roman Catholic Cemetery. Participants brought new life to an old resting place by clearing decades of debris, repairing and resetting headstones; restored the two monuments, painted fence, trimmed shrubs and trees, cleaned out leaves and planted flowers. Various organizations were notified and were quick to volunteer to participate. The project reminded all of us the importance of showing proper respect for those who came before us by respecting their final resting place. The organizations involved have been staying and will stay in constant contact and continue to be involved in joint efforts within the American Hungarian community and the community at large.
