Page 3 Fraternity- Testvériség The President’s Corner Welcome to your new HRFA. The last quarter has been very busy and very fruitful. We held our fourth and very successful NY/NJ/CT/DC district meeting at the Magyar Reformed Church in Perth Amboy with the help of Vice Chair Priscilla Hunyady and the Rev. Attila Kocsis. The main goal of all of the meetings was to create a positive atmosphere, a sense of belonging to an organization that is moving forward, and a sense that the leaders of HRFA are listening to the branch managers’ and members’ concerns. Based on the comments from the participants, there is renewed excitement at being part of HRFA. My activities have concentrated on building partnerships within the Hungarian American community, on showing the membership and the outside community that we really care about preserving HRFA and the Hungarian culture and heritage in the US, and that by supporting us with their business, they and their community obtain substantial rewards. We have moved to a business orientation to complement our previous excellence in fratemalism. Young people have started to join us and we have a number of new branches and agents in Florida, Indiana and Pennsylvania. Our financial ratio of assets vs. liabilities remains much better than the top insurers, as is explained in the ensuing report by our Secretary-Treasurer. What we were lacking in is new memberships and revenues, and these have shown a nice improvement in the last six months, due in part to the renewed excitement in HRFA. HRFA’s common bond is our interest in Hungarian fratemalism and culture, and in supporting religious and charitable activities. We have made excellent progress in using our common bond to create new business and brand awareness. We have started to advertise what good deeds we have accomplished and what HRFA is all about. Peggy Fabri was named NFCA Fratemalist of the Month and received a free trip to Washington to meet with congressional leaders. We received a warm letter from the Veterans Affairs Department for service to our country, thanks to the efforts of the Nicholas family and volunteers. The annual Hungarian Festival we sponsored in New Brunswick was a great success despite the heavy downpour, and Hungarian ingenuity saved the day for HRFA. The HRFA Kossuth Club picnic in Indiana managed by the Kovács and Mischak families had over 300 visitors. We sponsored the renewed Magyar Ball in the Washington DC area. In Florida we sponsored numerous activities for clubs and church organizations that have created statewide brand recognition of HRFA, and yielded substantial new memberships, as well as new agents. These are just a few of the successful activities we participated in that are described in this issue. Thanks to those Directors and members who participated tirelessly in these activities, and to those who showed us how fratemalism and business can be mixed effectively. When we Hungarian Americans work together we can achieve great things. The future of HRFA depends in getting young and selfless blood into HRFA, and on continuing the path that we have started. We ask you to support this effort at change. Fraternally yours, Jules Gyula Balogh Az elnök úr rovata Üdvözlöm Önöket a megújult AMRE-ben. Fiatalok
