Page 32 Fraternity- Testvériség words to present their experiences.” As the leading expert on Hungarian emigration history, she was invited to many international conferences and worked closely with American and European scholars in the field of immigration history. Of her four major book publications during the past 35 years, 1 am holding two books in my hands, which are the groundbreaking studies in which she presented the results of her research. The first was published in 1982 in Hungarian, Kivándorló magyarok az Egyesült Államokban, 1880-1940, and the second published in English in 2000 in the distinguished Ellis Island Series, Ties That Bind, Ties That Divide, 100 Years of Hungarian Experience in the United States. In the same year, 2000, the American Hungarian Foundation honored Dr. Julianna Puskás with the presentation of our Abraham Lincoln Award. I need to add that she had a key role in editing the One Hundredth Anniversary Album, Hungarian Reformed Federation of America, 1896-1996. More recently, she also became more interested in the processes of cultural and social change whereby immigrants ceased to be “foreigners” and yet did not become “one hundred percent Americans.” During the past several years, she was working feverishly to complete one final, new book, her pictorial history of the Hungarian churches and Jewish synagogues in America. The work was nearly complete at the time of her death Through her research, her many scholarly articles and publications, Julianna Puskás became the leading authority, the premier historian and scholar in Hungary and in the United States, to discuss Hungarian immigration history. We were honored and fortunate to have been a part of her work and her life. Her memory and her work shall live on as an inspiration and direction for others who follow in her footsteps and the path she traveled. Professor August J.
