Page 19 Fraternity- Testvériség now works for Starr Tours, and was driving the group to Great Adventure on Tuesday. Frank Király drove down to take them lunch, because they are very short on money and all food in the park is so expensive. That evening, Rev. Ujj picked up Kentucky Fried Chicken for their dinner, which we supplemented by 20 pounds of mashed potatoes, and a selection of fruits, breads, coleslaw, and raw vegetables. Wednesday morning, the group needed a good breakfast before setting out on their bikes again. With some trepidation, we made American- style pancakes for them. Although hesitant at first, most of them ended up asking for seconds, and some even thirds. Soon after breakfast, the group left, headed for Washington, D.C., where they were met by FIRFA's Flome Office staff. (See article on p. 6.) The bicycle group, with boys as young as 11, was one of the most polite groups any of us had ever seen. They were quiet, grateful, totally obedient to their leaders, and prayed after as well as before eating. It happened that after the first night, all of the people helping with the shopping, cooking, and serving were Federation members, and we are proud of their dedication. The HRC Trenton offered to reimburse everyone for the food. Deneice Oroszvary, Branch Manger Tel: (215) 493-0656 Branch 35 - Detroit, MI May 7, 2005: Join Hands Day — We had about 14 people on this beautiful sunny day. Mothers, grandmothers, fathers, and grandfathers with children showed up to help with the beautification of the church grounds at Allen Park. As we planted the flower beds, all the magnificent Branch 35 Join Hands Day team geraniums, daisies, marigolds, and other colorful flowers made the result of our work magical. When we were finished with the project, we had our well deserved lunch as we always do. Everybody contributed to the menu. Some brought the sandwich meat and cheese, others chipped in with the vegetables, fruits, and mixed potato salad. Irene Ambrus made baked beans as she always does for this occasion. After we ate and had our desserts, the children started singing and dancing, and the more the audience clapped, the less they wanted to stop. Everybody had a marvellous time and they said they are looking forward to next year because it was a very nice program, a great occasion to get together. May 17, 2005: Memorial Day - In Southgate we have a monument commemorating the veterans of World War II, Vietnam and Korean Wars. Every year there is a program dedicated to our heroes on Memorial Day. Our mayor himself attends and reads out a poem each year. The entire program is organized by Jim Auston, the American Legion Post Commander. Relatives have a chance to lay a wreath in memory of those who had died in any of the 3 wars. After this, the American Legion Members Honor Guards had a 21-gun salute. My husband and I attended every year, except this year due to my husband’s death a few months ago, I went with my grandchildren who put a wreath in memory of their grandfather. It was a very worthwhile program, and we will continue to go every year. Unfortunately, the list gets longer every year as they they add the names of those who die in Iraq. June 16, 2005: Donor’s Dinner at the Bethlen Home — It was a very beautifully organized, touching and joyous event for all the participants. Among the many people in attendance there were a lot of board members of HRFA, including our new CEO Mr. Jules Balogh, Mr. George Dózsa with his wife Matilda, Reverend Les Martin, Priscilla Hunyady, Joe and Peggy Fabri, as well as Reverend Jalso and many others. Reverend Bertalan and Michael Walker made a very short but very meaningful presentation about Brianna and Alexeys Hladchuk were sad when the commander read their grandfather’s, Andrew Szabo’s name.
