Page 5 Fraternity- Testvériség Christmas Greetings “Be not afraid, for behold, 1 bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2:10-11 This is the wonderful Christmas message to all the world. This is the wonderful message to each of us today. It is a message two thousand years old, a message which has inspired some of the world’s greatest paintings, sculptures, and traditions. This is the message which each of us carries in our hearts from the time we were little children. Yet I wonder how many of us realize the true blessings this message brings: it is more than a wonderful, fuzzy feeling for children on Christmas, one which we remember for a few hours. This is the proclamation by the Angels of God that our lives are changed forever! The birth of Jesus is a new beginning for each of us in life. He is the “Savior,” someone who will change our lives when we let him! “Savior” in the Oxford Dictionary is “One who delivers or rescues from peril” for Christians. He who saves mankind from sin and its consequences.” Several hundred years ago, missionaries were attempting to translate the Bible into a local language in Africa, and they discovered there is no word for the term “Savior.” After describing to the natives what this term meant, they remembered in their history when slave traders had captured natives to be sold into slavery, and there were some brave enough to attack the slave traders and free those who had been enslaved. They had words for them: “He who frees us from our chains,” and this became the term in the Bible for “Savior.” Unfortunately, often the importance of this is lost on us. Yes, we are grateful that our sins and their consequences are forgiven through Christ’s sacrifice. But we forget that it is not just for the future after our earthly life that Christ comes to offer us freedom. He comes to free us for THIS LIFE also! Accepting Christ as our “Personal Savior” really means that having been “freed from our chains” of sin, we can start a new life even now! Christ has broken the “chains of sin.” Yet many of us continue to carry them around because of shame and guilt. Those are “chains” we put on no one else. And only we can remove them, and that can only happen if we believe in our hearts He died for us and accept Christ’s sacrifice as a sacrifice for each of us individually - for you and me. Christ’s sacrifice was for YOU! The chains have been broken. Christ already did that. This Christmas, get to know that Jesus who is more than a “heartwarming baby in a cradle” and allow him to change your future! Rejoice! Rejoice this Christmas, “for to YOU is bom this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Rt. Rev. És bemenvén a házba, ott találták a gyermeket anyjával Máriával; és leborulván, tisztességet tőnek néki, és kitárván ajándékokat adának néki: aranyat, tömjént, mirhát” (Máté 1,23, 2, 11) Szeretett Testvéreink az Úr Jézus Krisztusban! Karácsony szent ünnepére készülve legyen részünk az igazi örömben azzal a biztos tudattal, hogy jó Istenünk népes nagy világa iránti szeretetéből, megváltói védelmére ajándékozta fiát Jézus Krisztust, és kicsiny Bethlehemben földre szállt az ég Királya! „Szeretet és igazság jön vele, kezében a szabadság fegyvere, nyissatok hát előtte szívet, ti megváltott hívek, hogy boldogságban örvendjetek.” Csodálatosan, mint régen az első karácsonykor úgy a mi időnkben is, ha bízunk Istenben életünk megváltó Urában, akkor 2004 karácsonyán bethlehemi csillag fénye ragyog életünk egén, és elvezet Jézushoz. Boldogan Megyünk. Tisztességet teszünk. A legdrágább kincset adjuk: a dobogó szívünket, hogy örömteljes békességet sugárzó boldog életünk legyen. Szeretett Testvérem! „Ne aggodalmaskodjál, nézz Istenedre fel! O felruház és táplál, rád gondot ő visel. Dicső Király, ég és föld Ura! Szívünk tiéd, légy annak is Ura!” A karácsonyi evangélium életszépítő gazdag áldásával köszöntjük az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyesület vezetőségét és tagjait. Kívánunk örömteljes karácsonyi ünnepet és eredményekben bővelkedő békés új esztendőt. Karácsony ünnepén, kegyes keresztények, zengjen, zengedezzen örvendő ének! Krisztus született, Halleluja! (Ph.
