Csikesz, Area Director Tel: 814-352-8438 Branch 20 - Trenton, New Jersey On March 30, 2003, we elected the following branch officers: Rev. Leslie Ujj, President; John Sutyinszky, Treasurer; and Deneice Oroszvary, Secretary. Activities in 2003 have been somewhat haphazard so far. We continue to work on sewing walker bags. We have started making journals, which are fabric-covered blank books to be given to children in hospitals. At our meeting on March 30, it was decided to participate in Join Hands Day by delivering walker bags to nursing homes and journals to hospitals. We will be working with the Christian Youth Fellowship, since the President, Vice-President, and Secretary of the youth group are all HRFA members who attended the meeting. We are looking into possibilities for completing more walker bags and journals. Our new sewing project is to make aprons for Garden Voices, Inc. The aprons are also made from the fabric provided by Quilts for Kids, so the first five aprons were donated to Q4K to use in fundraising. Forty aprons have been given to Garden Voices for a fundraising project, although some will be used as gifts. Since Gardner’s Syndrome is 70% of the time an inherited disease, there are often dying parents with sick children. It was decided to give an apron to anyone on their list who is in the position of losing a spouse and also has a child or children with the disease. Our next meeting is planned for August 17, giving us time to plan an event for Make A Difference Day. Some ideas we have started considering were to serve a meal to senior citizens, deliver Hungarian pastry to shut-ins, or visit nursing homes where some of our members are staying. For all our projects we need helping hands. Please contact Branch Manager, Deneice Oroszvary, if you can spare some time to help us help others in need. On February 23, 2003, some of our members were sworn in as council members of our church, the American Hungarian Reformed Church of Allen Park; on Andy and Ilona Szabó with their grandchildren, Alexeys Hladchuk and Joshua Ritchie. March 9th, the Busy Bee Club hosted a French toast breakfast; on Easter Sunday, April 20th, our Sunday School children presented a beautiful Easter play to the delight of the audience; on May 9th, the men of the church treated the mothers to a delicious Mother’s Day banquet; and on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, the Sunday School children recited beautiful poems in honor of the mothers. We thank the members of our branch, as well as our pastor, the Reverend Ferenc Varga and his wife, Katalin, for their help and support at all times. Thank you all!
