FRATERNITY Page 5 From The Bethlen Home Volunteer Recognition April celebrates Volunteer Recognition Month. Millions of Americans will be recognized throughout the world for their dedication and the support they give to their community, service groups, churches, and nursing homes during National Volunteer Recognition Week, which will be celebrated April 13th through April 19th. The Bethlen Home will be honoring the many volunteers who play such a vital part in our residents’ lives on Thursday, April 17th, with a recognition luncheon and award presentation. This year's theme is entitled, "The Giving of Time.” Each year a Volunteer is chosen for the hard work, dedication and support that he or she has given throughout the year to our Home and residents. This year's "Volunteer of the Year" award will be presented to Helen Rose. Helen came from Oklahoma to Ligonier in May 1998 to be closer to her family. She currently resides in our Independent Living cottages located on the grounds of the Bethlen Home. A week after Helen's arrival to the Bethlen Home, she offered to share her gift and love for music with our residents. Since that time, Helen volunteers her services by playing for three Sunday church services at the Home and at Ligonier Gardens, along with special events held throughout the year. She also enjoys working in the gift shop, helping with outings, at picnics, etc. Wherever she is needed, she'll be there! Helen served in the United States Navy in World War II and also worked for the United States Government in the Veterans Administration and the CIA. Her work has taken her to several overseas posts (Singapore, Uruguay, and the Philippine Islands), as well as working in the White House. "Congratulations, Helen!" We look forward to having you as a volunteer for many years to come. WELCOME! The Bethlen Home welcomes Ann Donovan as the new Director of Nursing. Ann is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Donovan of Ligonier. She returns to Ligonier with her husband, Lynn Balthaser, and son, Benjamin Harrison. Ann has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Lynchburg College, Lynchburg, Virginia, and a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia. She is also a Board Certified Clinical Wound, Ostomy and Continence Clinical Nurse Specialist from R.B. Turnbull, Jr. School of Enterostomy Therapy at Cleveland Clinic. Ann comes to the Bethlen Home from the University of Virginia where she was employed for the past 12 years as the Associate Director of a Chronic Wound Care Clinic, and has over 10 years association with Hospice. Ann returns to Ligonier Valley bringing with her a wide range of clinical and leadership skills. She says, "The Bethlen Home holds a special place in my heart. This is the place where I learned that I wanted to be a nurse. I volunteered Director of Nursing Ann Donovan here during my high school years and have many fond memories. I am excited to be back home, and I am eager to continue to lead The Bethlen Home in the tradition of providing quality patient care to our community." Sherry A.
