(continued) “Church World Service CROP WALK” 2002. április 7-én kilencen az egyik egyházamból, a washingtoni Christ United Methodist templomból, és még sok egyháztag négy másik felekezettől részt vett az ez évi Church World Service által rendezett CROP WALK-on. Örömmel mondhatom, hogy a másik egyházam, az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház is pártfogója a programnak. Nem tudom elmondani, mennyire lelkesítő volt számunkra, még a nagy eső ellenére is! Mindannyian egy rövid imával és énekléssel kezdtük meg a római katolikus Our Lady of Victory templomban. Azután gyalogoltunk hat mérföldet a gyönyörű washingoni észak- nyugati kanális mentén. Amikor megtettük az egész utat, megígértük, hogy a jövő évben is részt veszünk, és igyekszünk beszervezni másokat is. A Church World Service 36 protestáns, ortodox és anglikán felekezetnek a misszióját végzi segélyezéssel, fejlesztéssel és menekültek támogatásával. Minden évben több mint egy negyed millió amerikai résztvevője van a 2000, helyileg szervezett, CROP WALK-nak. Mindenki, aki részt vesz az akcióban, sponzorokat keres templomában, családjában, ismerősei körében és kollegái között, akik vállalják, hogy adakoznak a “gyaloglásért.” Mi kilencen például 3,000 dollárt gyűjtöttünk a sponzorokon keresztül. A CROP WALK adományai segítik az éhezőket és több mint 80 ország segélyprogramját. Emellett a pénz egy része az amerikai “étel-bankokat” is támogatja. Minden lépésnél éreztük a szolidaritást A CroP Walk végeztével, a többi CROP WALK résztvevőivel országszerte, s az örömöt, tudván, hogy igazán segítettünk sok-sok szegény életén. Nem szeretne-e részt venni e nemes programban? Úgy mint én, vállalhatná, hogy elkezdi ezt a missziót a saját templomában. A Church World Service kérésre küld mellékleteket az egyháza bulletin-jébe, videót, amelyik ismerteti a CROP WALK-ot. Lehet előre vásárolni tőlük CROP WALK inget is. Olyan inspiráló a részvétel! Kiss Borbála, Washington, D.C., 300~as osztály. “Church World Service CROP WALK” April 7, 2002 On April 7, 2002, nine members from Washington D.C.’s Christ United Methodist Church, along with people of all ages from four other various denominations, took part in the annual Church World Service CROP WALK. I am happy to report that the Hungarian Reformed Church of Washington, D.C. was also a CROP WALK sponsor. Despite the accompaniment of a steady rain, the walk was an inspiring experience! We began with a short prayer service at Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church and then walked six miles round-trip beside a beautiful canal in North-West Washington, D.C. All of us walked the full route, and vowed to return next year with more parishioners participating. Church World Service (CWS) is the relief, development, and refugee assistance ministry of 36 Protestant, Orthodox, and Anglican denominations. Each year more than a quarter of a million CROP WALK-ers nationwide walk in 2,000 locally organized CROP WALKS to help stop hunger and support development in more than 80 countries. Part of the money raised is donated to local food banks and pantries. Each walker solicits sponsorships from church, family, friends, and co-workers who donate to this worthwhile ecumenical cause. For example, the nine of us raised over 3,000 dollars. With each step, we felt a solidarity with other CROP WALK-ers in the U.S., and the joy of knowing that we were truly making a difference in the lives of many poor people! Perhaps you would like to be a part of this wonderful venture next year. You could introduce it, the way I did, to your local church as part of their Mission work. CWS will provide you with bulletin inserts and a video explaining the purpose of CROP WALK. You can also buy specially designed T-shirts for the walk. It is so inspiring!!
