FRATERNITY Page 15 Branch 52 - So. Norwalk, Connecticut Join Hands Day - Saturday, June 15, 2002 Our project consisted of cleaning in and around the property of the Calvin Reformed Church of Norwalk. Our volunteers gave their time freely and willingly to clean the church and beautify its surroundings. The tasks completed were: polishing of all the wood inside the church sanctuary; cleaning out and straightening three storage closets; weed-whacking property around the rear of the church; collating the Church’s annual report; pulling weeds in the garden; putting a wallpaper border in the men’s room; cleaning the ladies room; washing pots, pans and containers that needed to be done; cutting and trimming shrubs; cleaning out and straightening the garage; and bringing empty cardboard boxes and weeds to the dump. For all of the above work, the following people are to be thanked: Irene (Bunny) Lambert; A1 Kokoth; Jennifer Kokoth; Margaret Kokoth; Mary Kokoth; Linda Martin; Bill Tingets; Elaine Zakhar; Jessica Zakhar; Justin Zakhar; and Robert (Jack) Zakhar. We are proud of our youth who were involved in deciding the project. Closer ties with them encouraged us to look forward to working together again at Join Hands Day in 2003. Cleaning the church basement. Join Hands Day Goes Overseas to Miskolc, Hungary Join Hands Day - Saturday, June 15, 2002 Early Saturday morning we headed out to the Hungarian Roman Catholic Church in East Chicago, to begin with our project of cleaning the church grounds, the rectory, and clearing a very neglected church basement. The projects required tremendous effort on the part of our volunteers. However, with youth and adults sharing equal responsibilities - the youth making sure that the equipment, tools, etc. were on hand, and the adults for providing a dumpster - the results were more than satisfactory. The church grounds stood out like a gem in the neighborhood. As a sign of appreciation for our hard work, a whole paragraph was dedicated to our Join Hands Day Project in the church bulletin. Our work was also very well received in the neighborhood. After the hard work, we all enjoyed a delicious luncheon prepared by our youth. A special “thank you” to our youth: Laci, Lori and Tom Cservenak; Andrew Kovács; and Derek Liszchak; and, to adult volunteers: Maria Kovács; László and Magda Hunyadi; John Larson; Kati and Steve Mischak; George, Janet and Sharon Rivich; Ralph Schueberg; Dave and Helen Sisak; Father Skerl; Geza Toth; and Miklós Tothfalusi. Maria Kovács, Branch Manager Tel: 219-756-3102 We are very pleased that our members living in Miskolc, Hungary, expressed their desire to participate in Join Hands Day. This is the first time that Join Hands Day went overseas. When our member, Peter Zsebik, heard about our project for Join Hands Day, he got so excited about the idea of working together with the youth on a meaningful project that he immediately contacted his friends to see what could be done. After deliberations and meetings together with the youth, the group came up with a plan to work at St. Vincent de Paul Society in Miskolc, a daycare home for the homeless.
