Page 16 TESTVÉRISÉG Student Aid As one of its many fraternal benefits, the HRFA offers a one-time financial assistance of $600 to our young members who are in pursuit of a college education. It is intended that this scholarship be applied towards the cost of tuition, fees, books, or room and board. All students who fulfill the following requirements may apply: 1. Must have been a member of the Federation for at least five years immediately preceding date of application for scholarship. He or she must be a member of good standing, i.e., applicant’s policy reflects no arrears in dues, and policy is not lapsed, matured or surrendered. 2. Should be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate day student in an accredited four-year college or university. The scholarship is not available to firstyear college students. It is only granted to those who are in their 2nd, 3 rd or 4th year and have earned good grades for the courses completed. 3. The applicant must contact his or her branch manager or the Home Office to receive an application form. Once the student completes the form, he or she should send it to the branch manager or the Home Office together with a transcript. The Home Office will review, approve and process the application and send the check to the applicant. We thank our Branch Managers for recommending these many fine young people for the Student Aid & Loan Fund of the HRFA, and for making them aware of this important benefit of our fraternal society. Mary Kokoth, member of S. Norwalk, Connecticut, Branch 52: “I am currently a sophomore at the University of Connecticut, with a major in psychology. Last summer I worked as a counselor at our local YMCA day camp. Not only was it rewarding to work with young children, but it also reaffirmed my desire to have a career working with children. My goal is to go into the Social Work field concentrating on serving young children. Besides finishing school and preparing for my future, one of my goals in life is to see all that I can see. One day I hope to travel to Hungary and other places in Europe. Another one of my goals is to affect the lives of other people in a positive way. I feel that going into Social Work or having a part in a young child’s life can accomplish this. My mother, father and sister have also been very supportive in helping me to see what I would like to accomplish in my life. I hope to make them and myself very proud. My hobby of figure skating, which I began at age four, has led me to giving ice skating lessons to children from ages four to ten. While in New Canaan High School, I played both volleyball and softball. As a member of the youth group of the Hungarian Church in South Norwalk, Ct., we hold fundraisers, tag sales and food and clothing drives for the less fortunate. For the past eight years, I attended the Hungarian Reformed Youth Camp in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. This past summer I attended as a CIT. Through this camp and my church, I have made friends that I will have for the rest of my life. We will continue to help and support one another as we walk through this life together and strengthen our relationships with the Lord. In closing, I would like to thank Mrs. Suzanne S. Virgulák and Mr. Ernie P. Virgulák for their continued support and interest in my education.” (Mary was recommended by Honorary Treasurer Suzanne S. Virgulák and Branch President Ernest P. Virgulák.) Talhia M. Krul, member of Lorain, Ohio, Branch 31: “I am a 20-year-old student at Maryville University of St. Louis. This fall I will begin my junior year. My focus of study is in the areas of psychology and sociology. Previously, I attended Drury College with a scholarship for my academic abilities and to play soccer. Unfortunately, I injured my knee playing the sport I loved most, and three knee surgeries later I was left unable to play. I had no desire to stay at Drury while not playing soccer. After struggling through rough times, I managed to get into Maryville. I had finally found the school that was right for me. The first semester there, I took all
