Page 20 TESTVÉRISÉG As one of its many fraternal benefits, the HRFA offers a one-time financial assistance of $500 to our young members who are in pursuit of a college education. It is intended that this scholarship be applied towards the cost of tuition, fees, books, or room and board. All students who fulfill the following requirements may apply: 1. Must have been a member of the Federation for at least five years immediately preceding date of application for scholarship. He or she must be a member of good standing, i.e., applicant’s policy reflects no arrears in dues, and policy is not lapsed, matured or surrendered. 2. Should be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate day student in an accredited four-year college or university. The scholarship is not available to first- year college students. It is only granted to those who are in their 2nd, 3rd or 4lh year and have earned good grades for the courses completed. 3. The applicant must contact his or her branch manager or the Home Office to receive an application form. Once the student completes the form, he or she should send it to the branch manager or the Home Office together with a grade report. The Home Office will review, approve and process the application and send the check to the applicant. We thank our Branch Managers for recommending these many fine young people for the Student Aid & Loan Fund of the HRFA, and for making them aware of this important benefit of our fraternal society. Sheila A. Brokaw, member of Branch 182: “God is in charge and I am so happy I am not. College has really begun to open doors and turn on lights into the ‘grown up’ world. I have a total or 36 completed credit hours and for being only 18,1 feel this is an accomplishment that I could have only thought about when I was younger. I am a vocal musician.. .well, in training! I plan to teach at the high school level and be a choral director. I want to put on plays/musi- cals and take small groups to competitions just like I did when I was in high school. Music is my passion and my relief. I relate to all types of music and appreciate all kinds as well. I love to perform and touch people with my voice. I only hope that someday I can affect millions with my songs. I am currently attending a college Bible study group once a week at night. That has given me the opportunity to increase and strengthen my relationship with Jesus and with fellow students. I also have voice and piano lessons once a week. The lessons are hard work but worth all the stress in the end. I cannot praise God enough for the gifts of musical talent that bless my life everyday. Thank you for your help in this wonderful opportunity.” Sheila was recommended by Director Tibor Nagy. Carlos Felföldi, member of Branch 4: “It is my philosophy that in order to succeed a person must first prepare himself or herself to become fully ready for life and its obstacles. A quote I once heard describes this thoroughly, “The will to succeed is not nearly as important as the will to prepare.” One can only be prepared for life’s challenges by rooting himself in diverse fields of study. The Renaissance man was onto something when he decided to create the study of the liberal arts. With this reasoning, it can be seen how everything 1 do, whether it be my extensive involvement with extracurricular activities, such as sports, music passion for wisdom that fuels my devotion for the pursuit of all knowledge. For me, knowledge is the energy force that motivates the world to move further ahead. That is exactly what fascinates me about mankind: our ability to leam and utilize knowledge and reason. It is knowledge that has given me hope for my future. Soren Kierkegaard said this best when she proclaimed, “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” Through the experiences life has brought me, I have come to the realization that my unique purpose in life is to dedicate my keen aptitude and comprehension of computer technology to the advancement and refinement of this ever- developing field. The path I intend to follow is to attend the University of Georgia and to pursue a Master’s in Management Information Systems. Upon achievement of this goal, I hope to secure a position that will allow me to use my skills and knowledge to the fullest extent, while continuing my acquisition of knowledge along the path that life takes me.” Carlos was recommended by Branch Manager Jolán Abel.
