I went to the Manville Reformed Church on Sunday, listened to an uplifting sermon, and never heard a negative word of complaint in spite of the losses they suffered. The church basement was under water and everything was lost. The kitchen, just about everything was destroyed. The parsonage was under water, everything gone. The people exhibited a strong faith and trust in God. We will rebuild with God’s help. I was indeed privileged to see a “miracle” as the members of this small church held fast to their faith, trust and hope in God. After church they went home, changed into their work clothes and went about helping each other. The following Sunday I attended my church in New Brunswick, New Jersey. I related the Manville situation. I reminded them that this was our “sister church.” Let us hold them in our prayers but also help them with our donations so that they can rebuild. What a wonderful reminder of the “Golden Rule” - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Esther M. Kormondi If anyone is interested in helping the Manville Reformed Church, please call President George Dózsa at 1-888- Kossuth (567-7884). Jesus Comes to Us in flie Poor The Spirit of Jesus is the Spirit of Love. Jesus Himself makes this clear when he speaks about the last judgement. There people will ask, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?” and Jesus will answer, “In so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:37,40) This is our great challenge and consolation. Jesus comes to us in the poor, the sick, the dying, the prisoners, the lonely, the disabled, the rejected. There we meet Him, and there the door to God’s house is opened for us. Henri J.M. Nouwen The Youth Camp of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the Calvin Synod Conference, UCC was held this year again in Laurelville, Pennsylvania. As one can tell from the picture, the attendance was large and interest is on the rise. We thank the camp leaders for their time and dedication to a cause that will reap many blessings to them and the participants. For as many years as the youth camp of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America and the Calvin Synod UCC has been in existence, the Federation has always been its proud sponsor. This year again, it has donated $5,000 toward the camp and has also covered the transportation expenses making it possible for the youth to visit the Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. To encourage participation, the HRFA also donates $25 to each Federation member that attends the camp.
