FRATERNITY Page 3 PRESIDENT’S CORNER The year of 1998 seemed to be a very long one in the life of the Federation and the Bethlen Home. Through the hard work and dedication of the Strategic Planning Committees of both organizations, we accomplished most of the goals that we had set forth for the year. One of our major achievements in 1998 was the agreement or “marketing alliance” reached between the Federation and the Catholic Knights of America (CKA). This agreement, the first of its kind among the small fraternal societies, will make it possible for the Catholic Knights of America to provide marketing, recruiting and training assistance for the Federation. The Federation will also gain five new products, which will complement our existing ones. The agreement with the CKA will go into effect January 1, 1999. The Strategic Planning Committee of the HRFA also started a vigorous campaign through district meetings to advance the idea of a new management structure for the Federation. The main thrust of efforts to restructure management will be to enhance the role of the Board of Directors in selecting and appointing the administrative staff of the Federation - CEO, Vice President of Marketing, Administration and Finance. With the marketing alliance and the restructuring of our management structure, our intent is not only to preserve our fraternal benefit system as we know it today but also to foster new business strategies that promote efficiency and growth of ffatemals as insurance institutions. The Strategic Planning Committee of the Bethlen Home also completed its primary objective this year - it finalized the first phase of the Master Plan for the expansion and upgrading of its facilities in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. This plan calls for a brand new facility to be built on the top of the hill just above the existing nursing home facility. The new construction will house all the patients (104 beds) of the old facility. Further, the new facility will include units for those suffering from dementia as well as independent living units. I am also happy to report that our management at the Bethlen Home has successfully completed negotiations with representatives of unionized labor for a 4-year contract. With this happy note, I wish to extend to all our members and readers my very best wishes for a Blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year. God bless you all. George Dózsa, President “I wish to extend to all our members and readers my very best wishes for a Blessed Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
