Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, was the location of the first celebration commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. The celebration was held March 9, 1996. The officers and members spent months in the preparation for this gala affair. Preceding the dinner, special recognition was given to all the children present, who in turn received gifts from the Sunday School of the Third Avenue Calvin Reformed Church. After everyone enjoyed a marvelous meal prepared by the Holiday Inn staff, the program opened under the leadership of Joseph Fabri, President of Branch 151, and Endre Csornán, National Secretary of the Federation. National President George Dózsa took everyone on a trip into the beginnings of the Federation with a historical presentation. National Treasurer Suzanne S. Virgulák continued on this path, remembering the role of women in the Federation. The Mayor of Beaver Falls, Thomas Berger, graciously welcomed everyone to the city. Branch 151 chose to make the program a special recognition event. Branch President Joseph Fabri and Branch Treasurer Alex Varady were presented plaques of recognition for their outstanding contribution to branch life. John Takacs, a dedicated officer of the Ellwood City Hungarian Home, was honored for his longtime commitment to his Hungarian heritage. Elizabeth Miskolczi was honored as the longest active member and received a beautiful corsage. William and Anna Miskolczi were presented with fifty-year lapel pins for their membership. The branch officers gratefully acknowledged the $50-savings bond which Mr. and Mrs. George Bokor donated for the children’s raffle. Before the dance commenced, every table was introduced and groups were welcomed from Pittsburgh and Youngstown. Finally, the dancing began to the beautiful Hungarian music which brought back memories of our childhood. A hospitality room full of wonderful pastries, prepared by Katica Kovács, was an added treat. The purpose of this celebration was to honor our Federation, but the theme of our dance was to create a lasting memory for our children and grandchildren. It was wonderful to see the girls and boys in their Hungarian costumes enjoying themselves. These children are the present and future of the Federation. We hope that the celebrations honoring the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America in 1996 will also include the children.
