FRATERNITY Page 11 PENNSYLVANIA NEWS The Ligonier “Pilgrimage” picnic held July 16, 1995 was the most successful one to date. Everything, from the serving of the food to the preparations of the langos, went smoothly and well. Since the leadership of the picnic was transferred from branch #151, Beaver Falls, to the combined Pennsylvania branches of the HRFA and the Bethlen Home, more individuals were involved, and shared the work load. It was good to see Hungarians of all ages in fellowship. Several tables were set up with colorful displays of Hungarian items for sale. The food was good and plentiful. The szallona sutes was the highlight of the day. Many of the elderly were brought in from the Home, and their participation made the day complete. We can only praise God for the wonderful church service led by Dr. John Butosi and Rev. Paul Kovács. We gratefully acknowledge the hospitality of Mrs. Edith Kovács and her crew, namely Esther Berki, Erzsiké and László Kasztal, Arpad Kasztal, Edith and Lajos Szép and our adopted Hungarian, Scott Palmer. We appreciate the participation of the local directors and branch managers of the HRFA. Also, the Hungarian churches from McKeesport, Duquesne, Homestead, Springdale, Pittsburgh, Brownsville, Beaver Falls, Youngstown (Ohio), Allen Park (Michigan). The William Penn Association was represented by the late Joe Arvay, Elmer Vargo and Elemer Toth. Last but not least, we cannot forget the honorary (retirees) national officers and the staff of the Home Office who traveled from Washington, D.C. to help us in our efforts. Thanks to Rev. Imre Bertalan, László Eszenyi, Martha Major, Teri Pflum, Bela Toth and Iren Vallario. Special thanks to William Szucs for his help at the gate. We were privileged this year to have two dance groups perform. The first group was led by Betty Király and the second, known as the Western Pennsylvania Dancers, was led by Rose Gerzsenyi and Andrew Uzonyi. Both groups are to be commended for their tireless efforts on behalf of the Hungarian community. As always, we are grateful to God for giving us the strength to continue this undertaking and for the participation of young and old who come together annually to celebrate our Hungarian roots. We look forward to seeing you next year on July 21, 1996 at the beautiful Bethlen Home in Ligonier, PA. Endre Csornán, Secretary A KOSSUTH CLUB ESEMÉNYEI: Hóvirág-nyíllástól lombhullásig -1995 februártól októberig A magyarországi hegyek déli lejtőin a tél utolját jelző hóolvadás nyomán megjelennek a közeledő tavaszt hirdető hóvirágok. A Kossuth Club februári gyűlésén a tavasz-várás gondolatával kezdtük meg a tavaszi és nyári programok előkészítését. Március 26-án került sor a Burai Cigányzenekar vendégszereplésére Merillville, Indianában, az “Our Lady of Consolation” római katolikus templom hatalmas különtermében. Az óriási érdeklődés mellett az előadásnak a tiszta bevétele 3,003 dollár volt, amit az East Chicago-i Szentháromság magyar templomnak ajándékoztunk. A Clubunk áprilisi gyűlésén kedves vendégeink voltak Washingtonból Dózsa György, az Egyesületünk elnöke, Csornán Endre, egyesületi titkár és kedves felesége, Arlene. A Kossuth Club összejövetelét és az Egyesület rendes tavaszi kerületi gyűlését egy napon tartottuk meg. Május 13-án South Bend, Indianában “Ujjé, a Ligetben” címmel a Budapesti Operettszinház vendégművészei tartottak nagysikerű előadást. Július 4-e tiszteletére a South Bend, Indianában rendezett háromnapos fesztiválon a South Bend-i tagjaink változatos magyar ételekkel várták a vendégeket. A hagyományos pikniket július 9-én tartottuk meg a már megszokott sikerrel, amit még a négy ízben is próbálkozó zápor sem tudott szétverni. Szeptember 10-11-én a Hammondon megrendezett Ethnic Fesztiválon is résztvettünk, nagy sikerrel. A rendkívül forró és hosszú nyár után pihenni készül a természet. Mire elérkezett október, az őszi első gyűlésünk ideje, hullanak a fákról a levelek. Most már a téli programokat tervezzük. A karácsonyi hagyományos ünnepély vasárnap, december 3-án lesz. Délután 2 órakor érkezik a Mikulás és utána felelevenítjük a kedves magyar népszokást, a Betlehemezést, ugyanakkor a decemberi gyűlést is megtartjuk. Kovács Mária 62~es osztály kezelője
