Page 16 TESTVÉRISÉG BRANCH 501 - METUCHEN, NJ To implement the directive by our President at the recent Convention to organize fraternal activities, the various branches of New Jersey held meetings at St. Michael’s in Perth Amboy, N.J. hosted by the St. George District of the HRFA. The culmination of these meetings was the "Maria Poes Fellowship Day” held on Sunday, August 1, 1993 at the beautiful grounds of the Basil ian Fathers Monastary in Matawan, New Jersey. There were over 300 members and friends from throughout the state and out including our National Officers attending. Rt. Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, from the John Calvin Magyar Reformed Church in Perth Amboy gave the invocation. Director Michael Pauli introduced President George Dózsa who welcomed the group on behalf of the HRFA. The menu for the day consisted of gulyás, pecsenye, langos, hot dogs and hamburgers, com on the cob, watermelon, draft beer and birch beer as well as soda, coffee, tea, Hungarian pastries and provisions for those making szalonna bread. A table laden with tepertő, Hungarian salami and cheese, and various fruits topped off the day’s menu. Hallgatos and esardases were played on tapes throughout the day. Additional entertainment was provided by the Regös Group of the New Brunswick Scout Troops as well as instrumental music by “Florian”. Many in the crowd joined in singing along when their favorite tunes were played. Donated items from a water purifier to hand crocheted articles were either raffled off or given out as door prizes. In retrospect, the picnic not only afforded the members as well as non-members an opportunity to socialize in a very relaxed atmosphere, but also seemed to stimulate the actions and thoughts of the various branch officers into a positive force. It is our hope that this feeling can be harnessed and utilized in future endeavors. The St. George District in conjunction with the participating branches of New Jersey turned over a check made out to the Student Aid and Loan Fund to President George Dózsa in the amount of $750.00. We thank all those who attended as well as those individuals who worked in such a dedicated and unselfish manner.
