NICHOLAS SZILAGYI 1922-1993 Nicholas Szilagyi of Woodbridge, NJ passed away at John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison. Bom in Perth Amboy, Mr. Szilagyi lived in Woodbridge for the past 45 years. He was employed for more than 40 years through the Bricklayers, Masons, and Plasters Union, Local 35 in South River. He retired in 1984. He was a Merchant Marine during World War II and served in the Atlantic and Pacific. He was a member of Dennis A. Roland Chapter of the American Merchant Marine Veterans. He was one of the officers of the St. George Branch of the HRFA until the time of his death. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Hansen Szilagyi; two sons; a daughter; a sister, and three grandchildren. (Our Director Michael Pauli, Jr. and St. George District Officers, President John Krilla, Donna Balut, Marilyn Kish, and Lawrence Toth represented the Federation at the funeral service.) STEPHEN L. SYPOSS 1901-1993 Stephen L. Syposs of Tonawanda died unexpectedly on October 4, 1993, in DeGraff Memorial Hospital. A native of Tonawanda, Mr. Syposs was employed by the Lehigh Valley Railroad for 45 years before retiring in 1969. In 1948 he was elected as member of the Board of Directors of the HRFA, representing the New York District; in 1964 he became Vice President, Board of Directors, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1976. The Federation then bestowed upon him the title of Honorary Vice President of the HRFA. He was a First Ward Alderman in the City of Tonawanda from 1945 through 1951 and also served as a member of the Executive Board of the Erie County Republican Committee and as a Republican State Committeeman. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ. Mr. Syposs is survived by his wife, Helen (nee Emry) Syposs of Tonawanda, a brother; two sisters-in-law, as well as several nieces and nephews.
