Page 14 TESTVÉRISÉG AMERICAN HUNGARIAN REFORMED PRESBYTERS' ASSOCIATION 1990 Annual Meeting The 44th annual meeting of the American Hungarian Reformed Presbyters' Association was held on September 2 and 3, 1990 in Ligonier, PA. The four major denominations to which the Hungarian Reformed churches are affiliated: The Calvin Synod (UCC), Hungarian Reformed Church in America, The Reformed Church of America, and The Presbyterian Church. The primary aim of the Presbyters' Association is to merge our Hungarian Reformed Presbyters' of America into one consolidated body, whereby the feeling of fraternal unity is evident. As a united body, we would face our common problems, strive to find solutions, and in unison plan collective actions at the annual conferences. In this way the organization would aid the work of the Hungarian Reformed Congregations in America, and the congregations would be better equipped to spread the Word of God. On Sunday afternoon and Monday morning, reports were heard from representatives of their respective churches' activities during the past year. Reports were also given by the district vice presidents as to their evaluation of church visitations in their district. Priscilla Hunyady, Eric Beke and Paul Szaniszlo gave reports on the 1990 Youth Camp. The main speaker on Sunday afternoon was Bishop Harsanyi, whose topic was "The Current Status of the Churches in Eastern Europe". He stated that the church life is generally good. The second speaker for the afternoon was Mrs. Anna Sütő of Allen Park, Michigan. Her presentation was on "Overview of Christian Education in our Churches". One of the main points brought out that the mission of the church should be cradle to grave teaching. Another point stressed was that the laity should be more involved with the church's programs. Those in attendance left the meeting with a greater knowledge and better understanding of the activities in our Hungarian Reformed Churches. The exchange of ideas should be beneficial to all who participated. Again, next year's meeting will be held in Ligonier, PA on the Labor Day week end. For those of you who have attended the Presbyters' Association meeting, please come next year and join the fellowship — you will enjoy it. Before the conclusion of the meeting, new officers were elected for the next two years. They are as follows: Trustees: Anthony Beke and Priscilla Hunyady; Treasurer: Andrew Lovász; Secretary: Pam Lovász; Vice President—Western District: George Kasza; Central District: Janet Vegh; Lakeside District: Paul ]. Szanislo, President American Hungarian Preshy. Assoc. Barbara Szucs; Eastern District: John Nagy; President: Paul J. Szaniszlo. The Presbyters' Conference was concluded with a worship service at the Chapel. The Presbyters' Association and the Ministerial Association worshipped together at this service, and at the end, Holy Communion was served. The Presbyters' Association wishes to thank the Bethlen Home for providing the facilities for our annual meeting. Also the Association wishes to express its appreciation for allowing us to be their guests at the Sunday noon day and evening meals, and the Monday noon day meal. Paul J.
