FRATERNITY Page 3 PRESIDENT’S CORNER Ligonier Days, September 3-7, 1990. The historical setting of this year's meeting was the 100th Anniversary of the Hungarian Reformed witness in North America. To some observers this milestone may indicate a decline in intensity and fervor. Those of us who attended the Ligonier days went home with reassuring feelings that although there is a long history behind us, yet the attention of the respective organizations was focused on the future. The Elders' Association elected new leaders headed by Paul Szaniszlo, an elder, a Sunday school leader and a youth worker with the Fairport Harbor, Ohio, Church. We wish God's blessings upon the work of the new president and his fellow officers. The Ministerial Association dealt with important issues that our churches face in their everyday life. Much attention was given to the forthcoming Second World-wide Assembly of the Hungarian Reformed people throughout the world to be held in Hungary on June 21-24, 1991. The American-Hungarian Reformed community pledged to have an active part in the preparation as well as in the celebration itself. Nothing represents a better test of our vitality than our willingness and ability to be co-sponsors of that great reunion. The Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home focused its attention on our several institutions within our Bethlen Home. The Nursing Home, as the Committee reported, is very well managed and deserves the recognition and praise of the whole Ligonier valley. The Retirement Village is fully occupied; there are no plans, however, for future expansion. Much attention was paid to the Bethlen Collection. The former resolutions, namely that the proper sight for the building itself be on the grounds of the Bethlen Home, were reaffirmed, and a feasibility study will be conducted by an appointed committee as to the extent of the building program. During the discussion, the reoccurring thought arose that this task will have to be undertaken in close cooperation with the church bodies, the Bethlen Home and the Federation. The understanding of the word "together" may very well be the key to the future success of this undertaking. The Field Force and members of the Board of Directors met on the 1st day of the Board Meeting of the Federation. Here again the concept of "working together" obtained a new emphasis: National Officers, Board Members, Branch Managers and Agents working together. Our good act for 1990 can be achieved only if everybody does his or her job — there is simply no other way for the success of fraternals. This was the unanimous thought at the Board Meeting also. The warm and happy fellowship of the Ligonier days are over for another year. We hope and pray that the resolutions will materialize in the life of each organization that attended the respective meetings. We made a reference above to the World-wide Assembly of the American Hungarian Reformed people. The Federation will be present and I hope that many of our members will join us under the Federation banner in the procession. I would be more than happy if you communicated with me your intention.
