FRATERNITY PAGE 23 I have been thinking a lot about Ligonier since I wrote to you. I wonder if the apple tree still stands by the classroom building. And, is the Dairy Queen still down the street? It was the ultimate treat to be allowed to go for ice cream after dinner. I remember learning the hymn, "Hinni tanits Uram," most of which I still remember. I am honored to have you ask my permission to print my letter in the Fraternity newspaper. Please do so without hesitation. Here in Denver, one rarely hears Hungarian spoken. There is very little of the ethnic diversity that exists in the East. I am still affiliated with the First Hungarian United Church of Christ in Miami. I attend church there whenever I am in Miami. My mother is still living in Miami and she is an active church member. The Hungarian background that I have has always been important to me. I had my confirmation and was married in the Miami Church while Rev. Szőke was there. My best wishes to you and your family. And thank you for the good work you are doing for the Hungarian community. - , . . D J sincerely, Arlene Gross Rogers, Denver, August 11, 1987 I believe that the teachers and ministers who worked faithfully and enthusiastistically with the children of the Bethlen Home did not work in vain because that generation of children will remain faithful Christians and outstanding patriots of both countries. Arlene is the second or perhaps the third generation Hungarian' who proudly states in her letter, "The Hungarian background I have has always been important to me." Arlene, we are very proud of you. Rev. Zoltán A. Kovács, Bethlen Home-Archives STUDENT AID Our Manager of Branch 62 Maria Kovács and her husband Joseph are the godparents of STEPHEN HORNYAK, a sophmore at the University of Pittsburgh, majoring in electrical engineering. Stephen would later like to advance into a career of building or repairing computer parts or other electrical devices. He writes: "I would like to thank you for this sum which I will put to good use in aiding myself in college by buying books and financing the courses that I am taking. I appreciate this help through my educational career." The Hornyak family is a firm supporter of all Hungarian causes. LISA MARIE PRASHAW is a sophmore at the State University College of Arts & Sciences, Plattsburgh, NY. She is currently enrolled in the Business Dept., pursuing a career in accounting. Lisa is the granddaughter of Géza M. Orosz, Manager of Branch 214. He has often interested her in his Hungarian background and its heritage. She feels fortunate to be a member of the HRFA. JULIE RHEA OROSZ, member of Branch 214, and daughter of Branch Manager Géza M. Orosz has graduated from SUNY Agricultural and Technical College, Canton, NY, with an Associate Degree in Engineering Science in May 1989. She was formerly a machinist journeyman for GM of Massena until the plant closed. Thus she appreciated the opportunity to be able return to school through the assistance of loans and student aid, such as from the HRFA. She is continuing her studies as a transfer student to SUNY at Potsdam, NY, to acquire her BA with a major in computer science and a minor in physics. Stephen Hornyak Lisa Marie Prashaw
