NORWALK, CT. MEMBERS: Mrs. Margaret Bolha, Mrs. Helen Y. Kardos, Rev. Eugene Z. Szabó The branch sponsored two one-day trips to Atlantic City in 1986, and one in April 1987. A very successful excursion to visit the mansions in Newport, R.I., on June 10, 1986, was enjoyed by 40 members and friends. Most recently, August 5-9, 1987, 29 members and friends journeyed to Montreal and Quebec, Canada, for a five-day tour. Many favorable comments have been received regarding this trip. On Mother’s Day, 1986 and 1987, the Branch and the Brotherhood of the Hungarian Reformed Church donated long-stem carnations which were presented to the ladies attending church services that day. On the first Sunday of June 1986 and 1987, Branch 52 sponsored the coffee hour between church services. On November 1, 1986, HRFA Board of Directors’ Vice- President, Suzanne S. Virgulák and her husband, Branch 52 President Ernest P. Virgulák, attended the annual meeting of the New England Fraternal Congress in Farmington, Mass. We look forward to attending the 1987 annual meeting which will be held at the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Office in New Haven, CT, on November 7, 1987. The following donations were made by Branch 52 in 1986: $100.00 Christmas Gift to the Hungarian Reformed Church, So. Norwalk; $25.00 Sunday School Christmas Party, Hungarian Reformed Church; $50.00 Bethlen Home. The next meeting of the branch will be held on Sunday, December 7, 1987. Election of officers for 1988 will take place and activities will be planned for the coming year. Suzanne S. Virgulák, Vice President BRANCH 62 — EAST CHICAGO, IN The following article on Maria Kovács, secretary of Branch 62, and wife of Joseph Kovács, Branch Manager, has been taken from the Times, a local paper in Hammond: “Maria Kovács—Cook ofthe Week and Bicentennial Citizen. When Cook of the Week, Maria Kovács, says, “Jó étvagyat kívánok,” she produces dish after dish of glorious Hungarian specialties that would appease anyone’s hunger. Maria is originally from the region of Miskolc, and her beautiful table reflects her heritage with lovely dishes from Hungary as well as with intricately embroidered cloths from her country. And while Maria shares with pride her particular ethnic foods, she is also proud to say that she received citizenship paper on a particularly memorable day, July 4, 1976, thus making her a bicentennial citizen. “Yes,” Maria laughed, “I’m a bicentennial citizen. I am proud to be here and be part of this nation and this system.
