Page 14 TESTVÉRISÉG REV. ERNEST MIKO (1925-1986) Reverend Ernest Miko, pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Nazareth, PA, died unexpectedly in May, 1986. Born in Passaic, NJ, he was the son of László and Elizabeth Nemeth Miko and a member since childhood of the Hungarian Reformed Church, Passaic, NJ. He was a 1950 graduate of Bloomfield College, Bloomfield, NJ and graduated in 1953 from Lancaster Theological Seminary. He received his master of theology degree from Princeton Seminary in 1973. In the early 1950’s the Passaic congregation, through the efforts of the pastor, the Reverend Victor Racz, encouraged four young men in their seminary studies. All spoke Hungarian well and deep in their heart there was a desire and willingness to serve a bi-lingual Hungarian American Reformed congregation. Great harm was done in our church life at the time of their graduation. He and his young fellow-graduates were preparing for ministry among their own people but there was no room for them among their own. Those of us who knew Erno intimately knew that deep in his heart he was disappointed. The large American congregation which he served so faithfully for more than 16 years did not fully satisfy his aspiration. He wanted to go to Miskolc and Patak to deepen his knowledge in the faith of his fathers. He was proud of his heritage and spoke Hungarian well and willingly. It was his wish to have Hungarian hymn, prayer and Lord’s Prayer as a part of the funeral service. Times have changed. If CORRECTION Dr. Louis C. Nanassy, Professor Emeritus of Business Education, Montclair (NJ) State College, is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Kalman Nanassy and nephew of the Rev. Dr. Louis Nanassy, a noted minister and one time Superintendent (Árva Atya) at the Bethlen Home in Ligonier. Erno would have finished Seminary last year, any of our largest congregations would have been anxious to benefit from his ministry. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He had served as pastor of the Lower Saucon UCC Church, Bethlehem, Wantaugh, NY Community Church, and the Colonial Park UCC Church in Harrisburg, PA. In 1980 he had received the Allen Meek Award, the highest award for excellence in the ministerial field from Lancaster Seminary. He had been active in his community and its various ministerial organizations. He is survived by his wife, Gabriella Racz Miko, three daughters and two grandchildren. He will be truly missed by all of us. HUNYADY LÁSZLÓNÉ szül. Gyüre Borbála Ibolya 1924-1986 Csapon született 1924. január 24-én.
