FRATERNITY Page 17 be always thankful to my parents for helping me to come to America, where I’ll have the opportunity to have everything I always dreamed about.” BRANCH 62 - HAMMOND, IN The 14th Annual International Culture Festival and Lacare, Arts/Crafts Fair was a celebration of the cultural and ethnic diversity of Northwest Indiana. This year there were 88 booths in the ethnic market place offering the delicacies of over 20 nations. We are proud of Maria who was a new participant in this festival and earned much praise with her delicious bakery. The Times, a local paper of Hammond, quotes her as follows: “I realized there was no Hungarian booth here so I organized one. We’ll be selling homemade nut roll and popyseed rolls. We’re just kind of testing the water for the first time. Our country has a thousand-year history in Europe. I think it’s worthwhile to share it with other people. Our goal is to let them know we’re here.” Kovács is already planning for next year. She’d like to bring in a Hungarian dancing group to add her country’s traditions to the live entertainment.
