FRATERNITY Page 23 BRANCH 405B, MONTREAL, CANADA Linda Pavelka of the Hungarian United Church of Montreal, Quebec will participate in the Belvedere International Competition at Vienna, Austria. Sopranos from five continents were invited to compete in this prestigious international event. Mrs. Ilona Komjáthy, our Montreal branch manager was instrumental in starting the professional career of Linda Pavelka. Since childhood she sang in the different church choirs under the direction of Mrs. Komjáthy. She graduated at the Music School of McGill University, Montreal, Quebec in 1982 and studied voice wit hthe famous Hungarian tpacher Edith Fabry at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music of Budapest, Hungary for two years. Presently she is associated with the opera group Atalier Quebec. Her participation in the International Competition is sponsored by gifts of the members of the Bethlen Gabor Literary Society of Montreal, the Reformed Ladies Auxiliary of the Hungarian United Church of Montreal, and also by the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. We wish her God’s blessing in Vienna. BRANCH 386, CINCINNATI, OH The following were elected officers for the year 1985 — Rosemary A. Szinnyei, president; George Schreiner, vice-president; Matthias H. Kemenes, secretary-treasurer; Ludwig R. Gazda, controller. BRANCH 402, WELLANT, ONT. At the February meeting the following were elected officers for the year 1985: John Fodo, president; Joseph Kovács, vice-president; Rev. Louis Keresztury Aday, secretary. BRANCH 62, HAMMOND, IN The following officers were elected for the year 1985: Stephen Bujtor, president; Joseph Szilagyi, vice-president; Maria Kovács, secretary; Anna Varga, controller. BRANCH 33, NEWARK, NJ At the elections held on June 22, the following persons were elected: Fred Erdei, president; Elizabeth Bagyi, treasurer. BRANCH 197, SPRINGDALE, PA President Louis Szuch opened the meeting with a prayer. The previous meeting minutes were read and approved. New business was the election of officers for 1985. President Szuch asked for nominations from the floor. None were presented. Frances Szuch made a motion that the present officers remain for another year. It was seconded. Secretary Sandra Duceour cast a ballot for the officers — Louis Szuch, president; Anthony Thomas, vice-president; Frances Szuch, treasurer; Sandra Duceour, secretary. Frances Szuch discussed the new policies that are available. One member, Frances Bentz passed away. A moment of silence was held in respect for her. Sandra Duceour, secretary BRANCH 269, PERTH AMBOY, NJ The meeting was held in the John Calvin Magyar Reformed Church of Perth Amboy, NJ. This meeting was opened with prayer by Rev. Bela Poznan who gave a presentation of the events of the past year and expressed his appreciation for the work that was accomplished in 1984. He encouraged members to work harder in the coming year and asked each member to think about what he or she would like to do within their meetings in the new year. The ideas will be discussed at the next meeting. The election was held and the following persons were elected: Rev. Bela Poznan, president; Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz, vice-president; Mrs. Bela Poznan, secretary, and Albert Docs, controller.
