Officer for 1984: President — Mihály Mikié; Vice President — James Bodner; Secretary — Mar­garet Harasim; Controller — Nicolas Kemendy; Branch Manager — Steve Kiss. The meeting was adjourned. Refreshments were served. Margaret Harasim BRANCH 227 - WARREN, OH Branch 227 of Warren, Ohio held a meeting which was opened with prayer by Director Joseph Emery Benedek at Brentwood Manor Recreation Hall. The meeting was called to order for the pur­pose of electing officers for 1984. Nominations were: President — Joseph Edgar Benedek; Vice President — Elizabeth Prokop; Sec­retary-Controller — Nancy A. Benedek. There being no other nominations, the above were unanimous­ly elected and sworn in. Director Joseph Emery Benedek gave a short talk on the life of and the benefits of membership in the Federation. Discussion followed. President Benedek set the date and alternate date for the meeting to elect a delgate to the National Convention which will be held in September, 1984 in Ligonier. The meeting was closed with a prayer by Joseph Emery Benedek. Nancy A. Benedek BRANCH 238 - YOUNGSTOWN, OH The meeting was called to order by the president, Margaret Dobos. Eleven members were present. The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as read. A motion was made by Margaret Pallai, seconded by Mrs. C. Lacates that the 1983 officers retain their office. The 1984 officers are as follows: Presi­dent — Margaret Dobos; Vice President — Dorothy Misley; Secretary — Albert Batta; Controller — Mrs. Albert Batta; Branch Manager — Albert B. Batta. Plans for the delegate election meeting were dis­cussed. The meeting will be May 20, at 11 am at the Hungarian Reformed Church, 925 Mahoning Avenue. A discussion was held concerning the Branch in a depressed area, as such, and to try to build up funds to present to the Bethlen Home. BRANCH 252 - NILES, OH The meeting was opened with a prayer by Direc­tor Joseph Benedek. It was held for the election of branch officer. The following persons were elected: President — Rev. Árpád Csaba Orosz; Vice Presi­dent — Margaret Szuch; Secretary-Controller — Elizabeth Orosz. They were elected unanimously. Director Joseph Benedek gave a short talk on the life of the Federation. The following date was set for the election of a delegate to the National Con­vention — May 16, 1984. (Alternate date is May 20, 1984). The meeting will be held at the South Side Presbyterian Church at 11:45 am. Meeting was adjourned. Elizabeth Orosz BRANCH 259 - LOS ANGELES, CA The regular annual meeting of the oldest Branch of the HRFA in California was held Feb. 5, 1984 in the Kossuth Hall of the First Hungarian Evan­gelical and Reformed Church. The meeting com­menced with a prayer and introductory remarks by the Rev. Anthony Szabó. The Pledge to the flag was led by Paul Toth. Branch Manager, Margaret Saltzer presented an over-view report of the events and activities of the past few years, with special thanks to former pres­ident, Lajos Szathmary for his help and support with branch activities. The report continued with current and future events and plans of the Federa­tion at both the local and national level. Former president Mr. Szathmary spoke to the group em­phasizing the need to remain Fraternal in character in order to remain in existence. István Szász spoke to the group regarding the importance of keeping the Hungarian character of the Federation. Election of officers followed. All officers were elected unanimously. President — Katherine Hickey; Vice President — István Szász; Secretary — Rev. Sándor Patocs; Treasurer — Margaret Saltzer; Con­troller — Mary Ann Carlson. Branch 259 respectfully request the Board of Di­rectors to consider the following recommendations: 1 — Develop and emphasize a stronger Fraternal character through more promotional activi­ties and literature; write-ups in nationally distributed newspapers and/or publications. 2 — Include juvenile policy-holders (without vot­ing rights) in the Branch membership count to ensure proper attention to this area of Branch growth.
