Page 4 TESTVÉRISÉG THE REVEREND BELA BACSÓ: Forty-Eight Years in the Christian Ministry — Forty-Enght Wedding Anniversary The Reverend Béla Bacsó was ordained into the Christian Ministry at the Magyar Református Egyház — now Calvin United Church of Christ, Toledo, Ohio by the Rev. Dr. Francis Újlaki and the Northwest Ohio Classis of the Reformed Church in the U.S.A. in June of 1935. And on October 26, 1935, his wife Ida (Tarczali) and Rev. Bacsó were united in marriage in the Toledo Chaurch by the Rev. Dr. Francis Újlaki. He began his full-time bi-lingual ministry at the Magyar Reformed Church, Elyria, Ohio on December 5, 1935 to October, 1939 and a second pastorate in the same church, November, 1957 to June 1976, a total of twenty-two and a half years in the Elyria church. Rev. Bacsó also served in the Hungarian Reformed Church of Gary, Ind. from October 1939 to May, 1943; and in the Hungarian Reformed Church of Fairport Harbor, Ohio from May, 1943 to November, 1957 — fourteen and a half years. At the conclusion of his second pastorate at the Elyria Magyar United Church of Christ, the congregation honored him with a “pastor emeritus” title. In their retirement, Rev. and Mrs. Bacsó live in their home in Elyria, Ohio. During the seven years of retirement, he has served, sometimes for more than fourteen months, in five various Ohio churches as interim pastor. A good minister and pastor can never retire — there is always need for someone who Can preach the Word of God. We, too, add our congratulations to these servants of God and ask for His continued Blessing in all they do. From the President 32nd CONVENTION — In accordance with our By-Laws, the next quadrenniel convention of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America will be held in 1984. The Board of Directors at the September 9, 1983 fall meeting, in Ligonier, PA, set the date of the Convention for September 17- 21, 1984 in Ligonier, PA. “CUT OFF DATE”, to determine the membership of a branch, is December 31, 1983. That means that the number of members will be counted on the basis of dues paid by December 31st. It is in the interest of branch representation at the Convention to have all members pay their dues before this deadline set by the Board of Directors. In the first issue of the Fraternity (March, 1984), the list of the branches which can send delegate/s and the grouped branches (those with membership of less than 300) will be published. The date, time, place and address of the ‘branch delegate election meeting’ will also be announced then.. The meetings for electing delegates will have to be scheduled for the months of May and/or June, 1984. Delegates are not to be elected at your January meeting when the branch officers are elected, nor can they be elected at any meeting prior to May, 1984. At the January/February meeting the time and place of your ‘delegate election meeting’ should be determined and the Home Office notified. OTHER RESOLUTIONS decided at the fall meeting: “that the settlement in the amount of $25,000 be made with the seller of the Wisconsin Avenue building. (Could not be purchased due to the zoning laws of Washington, DC)” “that the employee pension plan be changed to non-contributory” “with a deferred compensation plan for the Directors, effective January 1, 1983. The Directors period would commence from the date service began.” “that we will not issue the IRA plans.” “that the construction of a Community Center Building (in Ligonier) be postponed until after the 1984 convention.” THE RIGHT REVEREND ALEXANDER DAROCZY, our beloved Sándor Bácsi returned to his Maker on October 22, 1983. He was born in Puspokladany on October 28, 1899 and received his education, including the preparation for Christian Ministry in Debrecen. And what a ministry it was!
