should the name American Hungarian Fraternal Association be abandoned. Even though the William Penn resolution concerning retention of its present name by then was rescinded (telegram receivéd November 18), a motion was introduced that in light of this unexpected development, the Special convention should be cancelled rather than putting the entire matter in jeopardy and in order to save unnecessary expenses. This motion was defeated and the call of the Special Convention was sustained. Thus on Saturday, November 27th at 9 a.m. the Special Convention was called to order. Upon the recommendation of the Credentials Committee, 69 voting members were recognized and seated. First the proposed By-Laws were studied. Concerns were indicated especially in the areas of convention delegate election and in the area of the power and duty of the Convention versus that of the Board of Directors. Questions to be negotiated were assigned to a special committee. The consideration of the Consolidation Agreement was next on the agenda. Special attention was given to the place of the Bethlen Home in the consolidated society. After the work of a long day, at 7 p.m. the motion was made to put the question of accepting the Consolidation Agreement to vote. Upon the request of more than 10% of the delegates, in accordance with our By-Laws, a secret ballot was ordered. The vote was 35 against the approvel of the Consolidation Agreement, 33 for, 1 abstaining. The efforts toward consolidation were motivated by the old dream of creating one great Hungarian American Fraternal Society with more effective service toward young and old, and our entire Hungarian American community. Our delegates and our members through their delegates have spoken. We will continue to serve as the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. Now that the issue is decided, let us unite and concentrate on serving the ideals of the founders. Changes and up-dating must be done; reviewing our portfolio; finding new people for our field force; re-vitalizing branch life; and most importantly, getting new members, increasing production. For support we turn to the entire Hungarian American community whom to serve is our legacy from the past and our hope for the future.
