DEATHS REPLACEMENT James Labas, Branch 62—January 1980 Joseph Kovács Alexander Patonai, Branch 165—January 1980 Elizabeth Patonai RESIGNATION Anna Sala, Branch 165—January 1980 Alexander Patonai Barbara Szucs, Branch 252— April 1980 Edward Kosta Albert Oris, Branches 3—39 Emma Oris Frank Dance, Branch 5 Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy MERGED BRANCHES 287 to 378 — March 1980 138 to 300 — April 1980 115 to 300 — June 1980 301 to 300 — November 1980 At this time I also report the untimely death of Director Rose Nagy on December 29, 1980. She handled Branches 6 and 15 which are currently being managed by Joseph Molnár, Jr., District Manager. I represented the HRFA at the funeral on January 2, 1981 and delivered a eulogy at the church service. May God grant comfort to her husband and children and bless her memory among us. I ask that we stand for a moment of silent prayer in her memory. Also in attendance were Director Rev. Louis Illés, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Molnár, Jr. and from the Board of Manager, Rev. Zoltán Kovács. STATE RULES AND REGULATIONS (a) Agent licensing (b) Disclosure Statements and Cost Index (c) Buyer’s Guide (d) Ten day free look (e) Readability The regulations of all states in which we operate are becoming more stringent. We must face these challenges with better trained personnel. Of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, 47 require licensing of agents. This is in varied degrees and each year the legislatures are requiring more qualifications for licensees. Disclosure regulations and the distribution of a Buyer’s Guide before the writing of applications is becoming more critical. Some states also require that a ten day free look be given after which time the insured may cancel the certificate without any cost or obligation. With the accent being placed on consumerism, it is again proving that a well trained Field Force is a must. This is always being stressed in our various Fraternal Congresses and F.I.C. chapter meetings. Much of the same information is being covered in the report of the President and mysedf due to midyear changeover. All of the issues requiring approval of the Executive Committee are reported in the minutes. If there is any information that may have been overlooked, please request and the report will be furnished to you. READABILITY The legislation requiring the readability of all insurance certificates is being passed very rapidly by all states. We are now in the process of making our changes for Connecticut which becomes law on July 1, 1981. The other States are following suit and within five (5) years it will be a law in all the States in which we operate. We are attempting to score over the required 45 Flesch scale so that we will not be required to have a different certificate for each state. We are hoping that our efforts will not be in vain as this has already proven to be an expensive proposition and would not like to see this get out of hand to the point of having different certificates in each state. BRANCH MEETINGS The minutes of the meetings are on file in my office. It is ever important that everyone continue their support of our charitable institution, the Bethlen Home along with our other project, the Student Aid and Loan Fund. During this anniversary year many more donations will be forthcoming for our benevolent, charitable and fraternal acts for the good of all mankind. The minutes of these meetings should cover all such benevolent acts. MEETING MINUTES Copies of minutes of the various meetings are mailed to all Directors. I am the Recording Secretary of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Student Aid and Loan Fund, Bethlen Home Board of Managers and most recently the Consolidation Committee. These minutes are mailed to all Directors and you have complete information on all current matters. The Executive Committee is ready to furnish additional details to anyone requesting same. NATIONAL AND STATE FRATERNAL CONGRESSES Our membership in the National and State Fraternal Congresses has enabled us to seek out information from other member societies. They are always available and give information as we request it. Presently I am serving on committees of the National Fraternal Congress as well as on the Executive Committee of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York Congress. The Fraternal Insurance Counselor (F.I.C.) chapters are also an integral part of these meetings and I have tried to encourage our Field Force to study these courses. Thus far only Dawn D. Ward, Section Manager of Branch 2, has enrolled for the course in pursuit of receiving her Fraternal Insurance Counselor (F. I. C.) designation. To date I am the only F.I.C. that the HRFA has and I look forward to having others join me in membership. During this past year I was present at the Youth Camp of our churches held in Ligonier, PA. The President and I were afforded the opportunity to speak to these young folks. They were the guests of the Bethlen Home and following an outdoor barbeque, they toured our facilities. CONSOLIDATION COMMITTEE MEETINGS The Committee appointed at the Convention by President Arpad George has completed the fact finding investigation. All members of the Board have received complete information on the various meetings and reports for their review prior to this meeting. A report will be given at this meeting at which time further action will be required. I would also like to extend my thanks to the Pastors that had me as their Layman Day speaker. In all such addresses, the HRFA and the Bethlen Home were promoted in our 8
