MARTON MAJOROS 1930 - 1980 One of the most prominent and generous Hungarian- American personalities died in Atlanta, Georgia on April 6, 1980. A native of Hungary, he participated in the Hungarian uprising against the Russians in 1956, escaped to Austria and came to the United States in 1957. A cum laude graduate of the University of Budapest School of Medicine, Dr. Majoros completed internship and residency in general surgery at the Washington, D.C. Hospital Center and gained fellowship in ear, nose and throat medicine at the Mayo Clinic. He also served on the faculties of Emory University and Georgia Tech. He was a member of the board of directors at the Decatur Hospital and a founding member of the West Paces Ferry Hospital. Dr. Majoros was best characterized by one of his col- legues, Dr. William E. Silver. “He strove for perfection and had a keen insight into the needs of his fellow physicians and his patients and had the ability to motivate individuals around him to strive for perfection.” He was instrumental in starting the idea of a local academic society, The Otolaryngology Society, which is made up of ear, nose and throat specialists. A memorial lectur- ship already has been established in his memory and will carry his name and his ideals as an inspiration. In addition to his medical career, Dr. Majoros founded Mahun Oil and Gas Corporation and became the majority owner and president of this highly successful enterprise. He has always shown keen interest for the Hungarian- American political and cultural activities. He was the associate president of the American Hungarian Federation, president of the American Hungarian Cultural Association of Georgia and the most generous donor of our Student Aid and Loan Fund. He was survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucie Callaway Majoros; daughter, Lisa Mary Majoros of Atlanta; parents Mr. and Mrs. Majoros of Hungary. We are grateful to the good Lord that He gave us in Dr. Marton Majoros a dedicated and exemplary leader to the Hungarian-American community. His name is enshrined in our memory for ever. (L.L.E.)
