THE 1979 BAZAAR OF THE BETHLEN HOME During the winter and spring months the resi­dents of the Bethlen Home were working for the success of the 1979 bazaar. It was held on August 25th in the fellowship hall of the Covenant Presby­terian Church. At the time of this writing the pro­ceeds of the bazaar exceeded the amount of $3,000. The money will be used to extend the occupational therapy services for the residents of the Bethlen Home and make a token down payment for a “resi­dent car”, which could he used economically to trans­port the residents for shopping, clinical, dental and hospital examinations. The following resident members volunteered their services to work under the dedicated leadership of Deborah Mondon, activity director for the 1979 bazaar: Rose Airey, Esther Csiszer, Elizabeth Kovács, John Lazar, Joan Martin, Gizella Medve, Margaret Mircse, Sophia Nogrady, Helen Paal, Benjamin Peter­man, Amalia Schurger, Veronica Takacs, Maria Varga and Jolán Zamberry. Deborah Mondon inspired and encouraged the following staff members of the Bethlen Home to par­ticipate in the handcraft project of the bazaar: Mary Ruth Carnahan, Maureen Donahue, Jean Esson, Helen Fitchkow, Diane Hakel, Heidi Hakel, Beth Kennedy, Shirley Lawson, Betty McCabe, Richard Och, Pan Smith, Ginger Van Slander. Deborah Mondon also persuaded Rev. Paul Ko­vács administrator and his wife Edith Kovács to ask for bazaar contributions from the Ligonier merchants. The circulars mailed to the merchants, followed up with personal visits were awarded with valuable con­tributions made by the following 16 merchants: Bud’s Bakery, Commercial Bank, The Daisy Shop, The Gaelic Shop, The Garret, Grimms Drugs, Heavenly Foods, Ligonier Floral, Ligonier Pottery Outlet, Ligonier Ski and Racquet Shop, Ivy Manor, Murphy’s 5 and 10, The Post and Rail Shop, Oak Grove Drugs, The Town Shop and The Tree Shop. In the systematic planning the branches of the HRFA were also contacted. Promises were received in writing from the following thirteen branches that they will iq^ke the 1979 bazaar of the Bethlen Home their charitable and fraternal project for the year: Akron, Ohio (165), Cleveland, Ohio (2), Duquesne, Pa. (202), Homestead, Pa. (6), Indiana Harbor (154), Lorain, Ohio (31), Morgantown, W. Va. (153), New Brunswick, N.J. (302), Pittsburgh, Pa. (15), Pitts­burgh, Pa. (235), Sharon, Pa. (67), South Bend, Ind. (17), Washington, D.C. (300). The local congregations, the Hungarian congre­gations in the greater Pittsburgh area, the branches of the HRFA and the staff members of the Bethlen Home lived up to their promises on the day of the bazaar, helping the administrator, Mrs. Kovács in charge of the kitchen and the activity director as members of an inspired dedicated team to carry the valuable handcraft articles, food, refreshments and all other fragile material to the fellowship hall for exhibit, sale, cooking and serving meals.
