ELMER E. VARGO: From the OFFICE of the SECRETARY As we complete our first quarter of 1978 it might be well for us to pause and review the past and plan for the future, asking ourselves if we did our best in all of our endeavors. In looking to our past accomplishments, we must emember the purposes set forth by our forefathers when they organized our great Fraternal Life Insurance organization. During those early years it was important to work, worship and socialize with those of the same background and culture. This was especially true for those coming to the new land of America from the Eastern European countries. They united their efforts and built many houses of worship, for they were truly devoted to their religious beliefs and gave of their time, talents and finances to their respective Church. Upon this strong foundation which included all family members, they started in the organizing and building of our fraternal societies. They showed that “Fraternalism Is A Family Affair” and this is the theme of the National Fraternal Congress for the year of 1978. We would certainly like to revitalize all of our branches to concentrate on this theme, as the Family is the most important asset we have in America. It is important enough for President Jimmy Carter to have the United States Congress appropriate three million dollars each year for a study and enactment of legislation in fiscal 1978 and fiscal 1979 to show the importance of Family Life. I am a member of the Family Life Committee of the National Fraternal Congress and will be in contact with some of these representatives in discussing various aspects of the program. With such importance being placed on this from the national level, we urge all of our branches to work towards helping us stress the Family togetherness so badly needed in America today. The heritage left us by our forefathers make us proud for their concern and help given in the early years to our distressed members. This showed that they were truly their Brother’s keeper. When disaster struck in these early years, it was only by the helping hand of these members that the Family stayed together. We are still offering this fraternal service and ask that you help us to live up to the expectations of our early leaders and continue in assisting our fel- lowman. You can help by letting any of our Field Force personnel, listed on the back page, know of any of your relatives or friends that are in need of life insurance. We have available the best plans for savings, term insurance or mortgage insurance. The Federation is now in its 82nd year of service and asks your support for our continued success. The closing of the year of 1977 was one that completed the work of the Federation under the leadership of our new administration. The National Officers worked harmoniously together with the Field Force and made every attempt to continue the fraternal services for our old and new members. Our warmest fraternal greetings are extended to James J. Tulanko, the new Branch Manager of Branch 227 in Warren, Ohio. For our membership in this area, please call him for any information or insurance counselling you may require. We wish him the best of luck in this venture. Congratulations are also being passed on to V. P. and Mrs. Bill Aros on the arrival, December 31st, of their third grandchild, Jennifer Kay, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Aros. We welcome Jennifer into our official family as a member of Branch 31. Due to the extreme winter weather conditions that have plagued us these recent months, our agents had some difficulties in making their collections. The many snow storms in the East and Midwest along with the floods in California spared none of us in the United States. We would like to request our members to mail their payments to the Branch Managers, since the roads in many areas are still not passable or else they are unable to park their car. This would be much appreciated by all concerned. I again urge you to contact your local agent regarding any prospects you have. WITH YOUR HELP — LET’S GO GREAT IN 78! ! !
