REPORT OF THE SECRETARY FOR THE YEAR OF 1977 Mr. President, Members of the Board: Each time a new Administration starts to work, there are always hopes, desires and speculation. Everyone wonders how the organization will prosper under the new management. This has been a year filled with many changes, the likes of which have never before confronted the leadership of the Hungarian Reformed Federation of America. It is with the greatest pride that I submit to you my First Annual Report of my term of office, beginning April 1, 1977. During the year we were faced with many trials and tribulations on charting the future course of our Federation. It was not an easy task before us with the many changes that had to be made. FIELD FORCE The overall efforts of our Field Force has been fruitful, in most instances. There are still some weak links which we hope to correct. During the year, promotional letters were written with each Monthly Production Report and the writing of new business was constantly encouraged. DISTRICT MEETINGS At all of our District meetings the emphasis was placed on the writing of new business and the conservation of our present membership. The District meetings held in Cleveland, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Perth Amboy were well attended and informative to all. The National Officers partook and gave a brief report and answered questions pertaining to their respective Departments. DELEGATES OBLIGATIONS In addition to the promotional letters (circulars) written each month, I have written letters to the Delegates of our 1976 Convention, asking their help in the promotion of the work of the Federation. Additional letters from me will be forthcoming. We must get these delegates involved in our work since they formulate policy that binds us for the next four year period. Their responsibilities are as great as any National Officer or Director and they must be enlightened to their obligations. PRODUCTION CONTESTS Our Production Contest that was conducted for the months of July, August, September and October proved to be very good. I will attempt to possibly have two contests during 1978. COMMENDATION CERTIFICATES At our New Jersey District Meeting we instituted the issuance of a Certificate commending the work of our Fra- teral workers wht> Lave retired. Those honored were the following: 10 Frank Antal (Deceased 1978) Geza Megyesi Albert St. Miklossy Stephen György John Nagy This practice will be continued in the future. Hopefully these meetings will be conducted more on a training level and instructions given on all of our Plans and how to sell them. ADVERTISING The money spent for advertising has been curtailed and money saved in not giving ads to many people and organizations that are in no way connected with us. The President and I reviewed the requests and cooperate very closely on how the advertising allocation should be spent. We are trying to advertise in ways that will be most beneficial to the HRFA. NATIONAL AND STATE FRATERNAL CONGRESSES I attended the National Fraternal Congress of America in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with our Executive V.P., László L. Eszenyi. Many important matters are discussed and ideas exchanged at these meetings. I was also appointed a member of the Family Life Committee of the NFCA. The State Fraternal Congresses were also attended whenever my schedule permitted. F. I. C. DESIGNATION After much preparation and study, I received from the NFCA my F. I. C., Fraternal Insurance Counsellor designation and am honored to have been the first member of the HRFA to receive this distinction. CONTRACTS The contracts for all of our Field Personnel have been signed for 1978 and the quotas were approved by the Executive Committee. STATE RULES AND REGULATIONS The rules and regulations of the States are becoming more strict. It is necessary to obtain licenses for our Field workers in most states. They are adopting a uniform code pertaining to Fraternals, originally initiated by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In some cases there is a grandfather clause enabling us to get the license without an examination. Hereafter, any new agent appointed will be required to take the examination. During the year all respective Directors were contacted on happenings in their area. This line of communication will also be kept in the future. MINUTES OF MEETINGS At our spring 1977 Board of Directors meeting I was elected to serve as the Secretary of the Board. Copies of the minutes were sent to each Director from our April 1977 spring meeting in Washington, D.C. and of our fall meeting in September 1977, held in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. The Executive Committee held 45 meetings from April 1, 1977 thru December 31, 1977. I served as the Secretary of this committee. Copies of all of these minutes were sent to all Directors. The Board of Directors were kept up to date on all matters.
