We settled properly submitted claims within 24 hours after receipt. I am happy to read many compliments about our prompt response on the claims and inquiries. IV. TRUST FUND Unclaimed matured proceeds and death benefits which cannot be remitted to the legal recipients because of various reasons, are kept on our Trust Fund. The following listing shows the changes in the deposits in 1977: U.S.A. Canada Total Balance on 12-31-76 ....$164,492.43 $6,069.44 $170,561.87 Balance on 12-31-77 .... 168,755.69 6,043.49 174,799.18 VII. PAYROLL, TAXES After deducting the various Federal and State taxes as well as contribution to the Retirement Benefit Fund, we forwarded net payroll to the Treasurer’s office. Taxes withheld were always submitted to the U.S. agencies and Canadian tax offices on time. In Canada we have paid $22,484.97 in corporate taxes in 1977. Since January 1, 1974, Canada also levies 2% tax on dues collected. VIII. GUARDIAN OF SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES I acted as one of the guardians of the safety deposit boxes and went to the bank vault whenever the Treasurer wanted access to the securities. I spent considerable time in the bank while I was substituting for the late Treasurer. 8
