1 We published the text of our revised By-Laws in the Fraternity. We mailed same in a pamphlet form to the State Insurance Departments. A few months later we used the same print and published our revised By-Laws in a booklet form and mailed the requested copies to the State Insurance Departments. In 1977 we gave financial aid to the “Youth Camps”. The Youth Camps of Calvin Synod and the Hungarian Reformed Church in America received $1,000 • $1,000 respectively and the Canadian Youth Camp received $300.00 Student loan was granted to one member. Student aid was given to four students in the amount of $600.00. Our 1977 Field Force meeting was held on January 29th in Ligonier, Pa. The 1977 quota requests were approved by the Executive Committee. The Board of Directors of the Bethlen Home terminated the care of children in the Children's Home building effective July 31, 1977. In September the Board authorized the sale of the Kossuth House building for $1,500,000. Although the building was not put on the open market for sale a few real estate agents showed the building to the representatives of embassies and U.S. companies. After eight months of showing the building to interested persons we received a verbal proposal for purchase from the Embassy of Finland for the amount of $1,250,000. The Executive Committee rejected the offer. Another written proposal was received from the Embassy of Finland for $1,300,000. We also received a statement that the Government of Finland authorized the offer. In a separate statement we were assured that no zoning problem was connected to the written proposal. Our Financial Counselor after reading the detailed appraisal of the building recommended that the offer should be given serious consideration. The Executive Committee recommended the sale to the Board of Directors. The Board approved the sale by referendum vote. The contract was drafted by our Legal Counselor. The settlement date was March 13th. Mr. Alex B. Eger, Jr., Legal Counselor, was also present at the settlement. Copies of financial and activity statements for 1976 and 1977 of the American Hungarian Federation will be given to the Board members. The Executive Committee recommends to hold the Hungarian Summer School for a two week period from July 9th through July 22nd at Camp Laurel Wood, Pa. It should be subsidized by the Bethlen Home and the Federation. We commemorate the memories of the 383 members who died during the past year. We remember with special recognition our beloved Treasurer, Paul St. Miklossy who served the Federation for 42 years. Rev. Edmund Vas vary who served in the position of Controller for 21 years. Rev. Mathias Daroczy a former Board member. Rev. Raymond de Dobay, Rev. Sándor Bartus, Rev. Alexander Marton, Mr. Alexander Kayatin and Mrs. Theresa Conzo dedicated Branch Managers. May we remember our deceased brethren with one minute of silent prayer. On April 1, 1977 the following National Officers started to serve in their respective elected positions: Arp ad George, president; László L. Eszenyi, executive vice-president; Elmer Vargo, secretary and Joseph Molnár treasurer. Newly elected Board of Directors: Bishop Dezső Abraham, Joseph Bakty, Rev. Gabor Csordás, Rev. Miss Betti Balazs after 48 years of dedicated fraternal service resigned from her position. The Board of Directors acknowledging her faithful services voted a gift in the amount of $1,000. A ceramic Herendi candelabra was given as a special donation from the employees of the Home Office. Mrs. Irene Simon advanced to the position of Miss Balazs. Mrs. Eugene Vegh advanced to the position of Mrs. Simon. Mrs. Sarolta Birtha applied for the position of Mrs. Vegh. Dr. Paul Harsanyi resigned from the Medical Director position effective December 31, 1977. It was a pleasure to work with Dr. Harsanyi for five and a half years. He was highly respected by all our Board members. On January 1, 1978 Mrs. Katalin Korossy became our new Medical Director. She also has an excellent medical training. She already started her services with dedication. Four issues of the Fraternity was published by the Bethlen Press in Ligonier, Pa. I thank the National Officers for writing articles. I am publishing more fraternal material on the branch level. The Federation went through an IRS examination. In the Home Office everything was found in good order. For eight years as Secretary I emphasized in my annual reports the importance of branch meetings and branch fraternal activities. I hope that the Board of Directors at this meeting will vote the resolutions recommended by the Executive Committee to comply with state and federal laws. I express my appreciation and thanks to Mr. Bela Toth, my secretary for his services and cooperation I had the pleasure to count on. Respectfully submitted, Arp ad George, president 6
