ELMER E. VARGO: FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY The summer months are now behind us and are but fond memories as we look towards the New Year. Our Production Contest closed on October 31st and it is a pleasure to report that it was very successful. The Section and District Managers who were winners, are to be congratulated for their efforts. On the Branch level there was not as much participation as we would have liked. Those contests are given as an added incentive to you to make extra dollars. Our September Field Meeting held in Ligonier, Pa., was worthy of praise. Those attending were eager to learn and we hope to expand this phase of our business in the future. We extend a warm welcome to Nancy Benedek, newly appointed Section Manager in the Warren- Youngstown, Ohio area and Mrs. Irene Lengyel, new Branch Manager of Br. No. 259, San Francisco, California. Mrs. Lengyel has taken over the branch due to the untimely death of Eugene Nemeth. Mrs. Rosemary Conzo is the newly appointed Branch Manager of Br. No. 115, Twin Rocks, Pa., following the death of Mrs. Theresa Conzo. The National Fraternal Congress of America was held in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was attended by the Executive V.P. László L. Eszenyi and myself. Much knowledge was gained in discussing some of the mutual problems of our Fraternals. We are proud to be a member of this fine organization that is the only hope and salvation in fighting for the rights of our Fraternal Benefit System. During October, I met with our New Jersey Field Personnel and had a very informative meeting and training session under the direction of Area Manager William B. Puskas. More of these types of meetings will be held in the future. A trained Field Force can give additional services to our membership. In November, the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress was held in Pittsburgh, Pa., and the Federation was represented by President Arpad George, District Manager Mr. Joseph Molnár, Jr., and myself. This again was a very informative meeting which had a panel discussion on the recently enacted Bill No. 38 From the National Fraternal Congress, Minneapolis, Minn. Left to right: David Springob, President, National Fraternal Congress; Elmer E. Vargo, Nat. Sec., H.R.F.A.; William Wenger, Past President, Nat. Frat. Congress; Raymond Klee, Exec. V.P., National Frat. Congress; László L. Eszenyi, Exec. V.P., H.R.F.A. Uniform Fraternal Insurance Code for Pennsylvania which will become effective January 29, 1978. The Insurance Department staff was on the panel and it was moderated by Thomas R. Balaban, Esq., Secretary-Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Fraternal Congress. Our Congratulations to our Pennsylvania Fellow Fraternalists and outgoing President Joseph Miller of the Catholic Knights of St. George for a job well done. Our best wishes are also extended to Mildred Page of the Zivena Society and her corps of officers for the coming year. I would again like to call your attention to the article that appeared in our last publication about the donations we are seeking for the Johnstown flood victims. If you are able, please send your donation to the Treasurer, marked for this fund. Any help we can give these brethren will be greatly appreciated especially during this Christmas Season which will not be too joyous for many of them. You will note that the meeting dates of our Branches are printed in this issue. In keeping with By-Laws regulations we request you to continue holding these monthly meetings. The elections of officers should be either in Decembov or January and the names are to be submitted to the President as soon as possible. At these meetings we look for you to keep our Fraternal affairs in mind. Socials, raffles, card parties and any other fund raising projects should be held. Remember, we have our Student Aid and Loan Fund as well as our Bethlen Home in Ligonier, Pa., which needs your support. May we count on you for your help? 8
