ÁRPÁD GEORGE: of the Home Office. May God bless Betti with a happy retirement and good health. FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT Mrs. Theresa S. Bortnyik Conzo of Twin Rocks, Pa., died at age 61 on September 18th at the Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Benny and son Michael. She is survived by two sons: Daniel and Bruce and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Conzo was manager of Branch 115 since February, 1953. Miss Betti Balazs, much to our regret, resigned from her position in the Home Office after 48 years of dedicated fraternal services. She terminated her full-time services on September 30th. She began to work for the HRFA on March 4, 1929 in Toledo, Ohio. She started as a clerk and did bookkeeping work for Mr. Stephen Molnár, National Secretary in the Toledo Home Office. After working for the Federation in Toledo for seven years the Home Office was transferred to Washington, D.C. In the “I” Street Home Office she continued her work in Washington from March 2, 1936 working as secretary in the Treasurer’s Department. She worked in this position for Mr. Emery Király to 1963, for Mr. Paul St. Mik- lossy to January 1977 and for Mr. Joseph Molnár to September 30, 1977. The Board of Directors acknowledging her faithful services unanimously voted a gift in the amount of $1,000. The Federation’s check was given to Betti by the president at the farewell party held on October 5th in the Kossuth House. Farewell addresses were made by Mr. László L. Eszenyi, Mr. Elmer E. Vargo and Mr. Joseph Molnár, National Officers. A ceramic HERENDI candleahra gift was given to Betti by Dr. Zoltán Korossy as a special donation from all the employees We were shocked to be informed that Mrs. Ethel Darnay after much suffering expired on October 23, 1977. Her funeral service was held on October 26th at the Free Magyar Reformed Church in McKeesport, Pa. The following ministers participated in the funeral service: Rev. Kalman Gondocz, pastor; Bishop Louis Nagy, administrator of the Bethlen Home; Rev. Louis Illés, director. She is survived by her husband, Mr. John Darnay, Sr., former chief- elder of the McKeesport Church and the Hungarian Reformed Church in America; Mr. John Darnay, son, former chief-elder of the Duquesne church; Mrs. Ethel Nagy, wife of Director Charles Nagy, Jr., dedicated volunteer worker of all charitable Duquesne church projects; John Darnay, Jr., grandson, choir director in the Duquesne church; Mrs. Olga Darnay, daughter-in-law, manager of our Duquesne branch. May God grant comfort to the family members stricken with grief. May her memory be blessed. On October 29th the Bethlen Magyar Presbyterian Church in Union, New Jersey celebrated its 10th anniversary. The Elizabeth and the Newark congregations merged 10 years ago. Their union was blessed by God. Rev. Imre Bertalan director of the HRFA opened the anniversary banquet with prayer. Mr. Joseph Kendi, chief-elder gave a brief history of the church. On October 30th Holy Communion was observed during the anniversary service. Rev. John Makar, supply pastor and the president served at the worship service and distributed the sacramental elements. Following the anniversary service a congregational anniversary dinner was held. Mr. Kendi introduced the consistorymen and the leaders of the Ladies Society. Greetings of the HRFA was extended by the president, former pastor of the Elizabeth congregation; the Rev. László Hunyady, former pastor of the Newark congregation and pastor Makar. The memory of Rev. Bertalan Szathmary and Rev. Dezső Takacs, former pastors, was also observed. 3
