By-Laws Amendments and Revisions The Executive Committee with the counsel of the Legal Counsellor prepared the recommendations for the by-laws amendments and revisions and submitted same for approval to our Board of Directors. The recommendations were presented to the proper committee of the Convention. 15. Medical Director Dr. Frank Horvath, Medical Director, served the Federation faithfully for over 30 years. He died in Florida on November 9, 1972. The Board of Directors unanimously elected Dr. Paul Harsanyi as our new Medical Director. Dr. Harsanyi was broken into his position by Dr. Horvath. As we mourn the memory of Dr. Horvath, we thank him for training Dr. Harsanyi to be his successor. The Federation’s excellent mortality ratio may be credited after God’s grace to the conscientious and dedicated work of Dr. Horvath. It was a privilege to work with Dr. Paul Harsanyi, Medical Director during the past four years. He cooperated with us in good spirit and he maintained the traditional first risk medical standard in the performance of his expert medical services. 16. The Secretary’s Staff I want to thank the staff members of my department for their faithful and dedicated services. Recognition should also be given to Mrs. Palma George for her volunteer services free of charge as a dedicated Federation member. II. ORGANIZATION 1. Field Force Meetings The annual Field Force meetings are held during the month of January. The District and Section Managers are usually called to the Home Office where they have the opportunity to get acquainted with the staff workers of the four departments; take home all the forms, brochures and material they need; meet with the National Officers; start the year with an individual annual quota; clarify the terms of compensation; and during the question-answer period maintain a genuine brotherly spirit as co-workers and fellow- workers of a fraternal organization. The 1973 meeting was held in Ligonier, Pa. It has a central location and we wanted to have a good attendance. Our actuary expounded our new insurance plans based on the Commissioners 1958 Standard Mortality Table. The new compensation system was also presented by the actuary. It was unanimously agreed that the new system need further study. The 1974 meeting was held in Washington. The Board of Directors again met with the Field Force and the new compensation system was unanimously accepted. The 1975 meeting was held again in the Home Office. We spent much time on instructing our Field Force members on our new life insurance plans and new rate book. 2. District Meetings District meetings in the 1972-1975 period were held in four areas. At the district meetings the four National Officers made the reports of their respective departments. The President presented a general picture of the Federation’s standing. The Secretary gave instructions about promotional goals and the Controller gave instructions about collection of dues, claim requests, forms and settlement. The Treasurer reported about the financial standing of the Federation. 3. Field Force Training Course a. The Field Force training course was held from August 26 through 30, 1974 in Ligonier, Pa. During the morning session the Secretary presented the summary of a commercial company’s manual preparing their agents to pass the New Jersey state life insurance examination. In the afternoon session the Secretary presented the summary of the chapters of the Fraternal Insurance Counsellor’s course (F.I.C.) on the “Life Insurance Fundamentals”, Volume I. It was a very strenuous training course. The members of the Field Force worked very hard. b. The 1975 Field Force training course was held on August 29th in Ligonier, Pa. The Sales Course ended on August 30th, Saturday morning at eleven o’clock. Thereafter the Field Force members met with the National Officers. We reviewed our new insurance plans, discussed techniques of salesmanship and the importance of prospecting. A statistical analysis was made of the types of insurance sold during the January - August, 1975 period. 4. Area Manager Mr. William Puskas and Mr. László Kernes were appointed area managers on an experimental basis for a trial period. Their assignment is to recruit and train the Branch and Section Managers; to audit the branch books whenever there is a change in the Branch Management personnel. Their task is to encourage and help the Section Managers to meet their quota commitments. It is a new position. Time is needed to define more definitely the duties and work the Area Manager is expected to perform. 5. 80th Anniversary celebrations In 1975 plans were made to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the HRFA in 1976: May 1, West Mifflin, Pa.; May 8, Indiana Harbor, Ind.; October 24, Ontario, Calif.; November 6, Cleveland, Ohio; dates uncertain: Trenton, N.J. and San Francisco, Calif. 6.
